Support Wendy Davis’ campaign for Texas governor!

Last week, feminist filibustering shero, badass former teen mama, and Texas state representative announced that she is running for Governor of Texas in 2014. Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot, Davis’ expected opponent – a strongly anti-choice one at that – already has a ton of campaign funding, and it’s really important that Wendy Davis is able to raise some funds too.

We’re super excited to join an effort to raise funds for Wendy’s campaign today.

She can’t do it alone, folks, and electoral campaigns: they cost a lot of money! Hiring the best campaign advisors, getting savvy media folks, printing signs and flyers, and doing ...

Wendy Davis is running for Texas governor!

Updated: We’ve been hoping for and anticipating this news for a while, but it’s finally here: Wendy Davis just announced that she is running for Texas governor:

“Thirty-two years ago, I walked across this stage, the granddaughter of farmers from Muleshoe, Texas, who could only afford to rent the land they farmed,” Davis said at the Wiley G. Thomas Coliseum in Haltom City, Texas, the same venue where she received her high school diploma.

“I had no real idea what the future looked like. Today, I see it pretty clearly. It’s looking right at me. It’s you. It’s all of you. And all of you deserve to have your voices heard. Because our future is brightest when ...

Did Wendy Davis just hint at a run for Texas governor?

This would be the best news! On October 3rd, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis will announce her future plans.  The consensus is that she’s running for governor of Texas but until she officially announces we can only hope.

Her run against the sitting and forgetful Governor Rick Perry would be an epic battle of fundraising and outside cash is going to be key in how formidable Davis can be against Perry who has been in office for over a decade.

Certainly, Davis’ candidacy would fire up this website give folks outside of Texas a real opportunity to be excited about a statewide race in the traditionally red state.  If you would like to get Senator Davis’ announcement

Gov. Rick Perry signs anti-abortion bill into law

Texas Governor Rick Perry just signed the state’s new, incredibly restrictive anti-abortion bill into law. This is bad: the law could drop the number of abortion providers in the state from 42 to 6 and will ban abortion after 20 weeks. But this fight is not over. The national reproductive rights movement doesn’t want to admit it, but we’ve been losing for a long time. The Texas state government was already stacked with anti-choicers, as are the legislatures of many states, despite the majority of people in this country supporting abortion rights. But Texans rose up in response to this disgusting bill that will make abortion so much more difficult to access in the state. And that feminist ...

Wendy doesn’t “stand with Gosnell”

Do we really have to say it again? No, Kermit Gosnell‘s cruel and illegal procedures weren’t the stuff of pro-choice ambition. They were the result of restrictions on abortion access.

Yesterday, the Texas Senate considered the infamous bill that would ban abortion pre-viability and likely close all but five of the state’s clinics–and which has sparked mass feminist protest and national adoration for Senator Wendy Davis, Queen of the Filibuster. Opponents and supporters of the bill from both in and out of state flocked to Austin for the session. Among the crowd was Students for Life. The group held signs co-opting feminist language (“Social justice begins in the womb!”), but perhaps ...
