Breaking: Dominique Strauss-Kahn to settle out of court with Nafissitou Diallo

The French press is reporting that the former IMF chief will be settling out of court with Nafissitou Diallo, the NYC based hotel maid who has pursued a case against him for sexual assault, if she drops the civil suit–to the tune of 6 million.

“Details of the deal, which comes after prosecutors dropped related criminal charges last year, weren’t immediately known and likely will be veiled by a confidentiality agreement. That could prevent the two from speaking publicly about a May 2011 encounter that she called a brutally sudden attack and he termed a consensual “moral failing.”

Lawyers for Strauss-Kahn and the housekeeper, Nafissatou Diallo, made the as-yet-unsigned agreement within recent days, with Bronx Supreme Court Justice Douglas McKeon ...

The good wife: Anne Sinclair is leaving DSK

Anne Sinclair, the wife of Dominique Strauss-Kahn, is reportedly leaving him. The final straw for her seems to have been DSK’s alleged involvement in a prostitution network now under criminal investigation.

Sinclair, a former top TV current affairs presenter and multi-millionaire heiress to an art empire has been relatively quiet, if implicitly supportive of her husband since he was charged with allegations of sexual assault against Nafissatou Diallo, a woman a hotel worker at the Sofitel in New York.

From the Telegraph:

Friends of the couple told Le Figaro Anne has had it with his “pathetic” behavior and is looking into  or separation, as well as demanding that he pay back the hundreds of thousands of ...

DSK questioned by French police about Banon’s rape accusations

After the rape charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn were dropped in New York, he returned to France to more questioning about another potential rape, this one of Tristane Banon. Banon is claiming she was raped by DSK when she was interviewing him for her book in 2003.

After the investigation, prosecutors will decide if they are going to trial. You can read more about her account of the rape here.

It will be interesting to see what “credibility” questions come up this time since she is a French citizen and, according to the BBC, is the daughter of Socialist party local councillor Anne Mansouret and god-daughter of DSK’s second wife Brigitte Guillemette.

Breaking: DSK case to likely be dismissed; Rally in NYC today

New York prosecutors have scheduled a meeting with Nafissatou Diallo today on her sexual assault charges against Dominique Strauss-Kahn — but the outlook is not good:

Three months after authorizing Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s swift indictment after his arrest on sexual assault charges, the Manhattan district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., has decided to ask a judge to dismiss the case, a person briefed on the matter said on Sunday.

The case is sought to be dropped due to apparent credibility issues that arose after prosecutors received information about Diallo’s past which resulted in a media shitstorm of victim-blaming and blatant misinformation about her and the report itself.

Regardless of Diallo’s past and any changed ...

Nafissatou Diallo never said she wanted money from DSK

Breaking: Nafissatou Diallo is holding a press conference right now.

Remember when the DSK rape case started to unravel thanks to doubts about Nafissatou Diallo’s “credibility”? Remember, in particular, that New York Times story that cited an anonymous law enforcement official who claimed that in a recorded phone conversation Diallo told a friend, “Don’t worry, this guy has a lot of money. I know what I’m doing.”

Well, turns out that didn’t really happen. Yesterday, Diallo, her lawyer, and an interpreter sat down with prosecutors to actually listen to the tapes–and a very different picture emerged. The Associated Press reports:

In her first conversation with the man, she didn’t mention Strauss-Kahn’s wealth at all, instead telling her ...

Rape victims and anonymity

This week Nafissatou Diallo, the accuser in the Dominique Strauss-Kahn rape case, broke her silence in a print interview with Newsweek and a televison interview with ABC News An alleged rape victim coming forward in such a public way is unprecedented. Rape shield laws have historically protected victims of sexual assault. Because rape is considered especially harmful compared to other crimes, extra measures are taken to ensure victims recover and heal without public criticism.

Even with rape shield laws, though, victims in high profile cases are routinely smeared and accused of lying. Their identities are frequently leaked to the media and the public is then able to pry into their private lives and sexual histories, ...

DSK’s initial case falling apart as new charges arise from another woman.

UPDATE: DSK accuser is suing the New York Post for calling her a “prostitute.”

It looks like Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s rape case is being thrown out for a perceived lack of “credibility” on behalf of the potential victim. We already knew this was coming, but a rather unfortunate precedent set for women coming out against sexual assault when they are not the Most Perfect Victim possible.

In the wake of this case falling apart it looks like another case has come to the surface. French writer, Tristan Banon who is also a friend of Strauss-Kahn’s daughter and a goddaughter of his second wife, plans to file a case against Strauss-Kahn for attempted rape in 2002.
