Reminder: Don’t look at those stolen nude images of female celebs

No doubt you’ve heard by now of the Great Celebrity Naked Photo Leak of 2014. Thanks to an asshole hacker on 4chan, we now have proof that — as Roxane Gay notes — “beneath their clothes, celebrities are naked.” Shocking, I know. Here’s a reminder from Clementine Ford that the release of these stolen photos is a crime — and a violation that you are are participating in if you seek out and share the images.

Willow Smith and all of her #blackgirlmagic have put people’s proverbial tits in a twirl once again. This time it’s because a photo of her in bed with shirtless 20-year-old actor Moises Arias was posted online. The former Hannah Montana star is a mutual friend of Willow, her older brother Jaden, and Jaden’s bae, Kendall Jenner (a piece of celebrity news I didn’t know). As you can see, they aren’t touching or engaged in any way, but they’re in a bed, and he’s not wearing a shirt. Drunk in (same) love: 2014 Grammys open thread

 


I’m still feeling some type of way about the Grammys since they gave a platform to a known perpetrator of domestic violence. But I do think they’re worth interrogating as a cultural touchstone reflecting the most popular and commercially successful music of today. I all but ignored the recent confirmation and (social)media frenzy over Kate Middleton’s pregnancy. For one, I’ve never really been into princesses; and for two, she is only one of 208 million women that will become pregnant this year alone. She’s not exactly trendsetting.

Five insidious victim-blaming tactics being used against Halle Berry

On Thanksgiving Halle Berry’s current boyfriend apparently fought with and badly bruised the face of Halle Berry’s ex-boyfriend and the father of her child. If you’d like more information about the situation, here is a summary of everything that happened.

As dramatic and concerning as these developments are (I feel bad for pretty much everyone involved and am generally bummed to see violence take place), perhaps most disturbing of all is the insidious if not predictable victim-blaming that has taken hold in the days since the violent incident. Because Berry has been a victim of domestic violence in the past, you see, it is OBVS all her fault when anyone around her engages in violence.
