Entitlement

We’re all entitled to things. I’m entitled to this cup of tea I made. I’m entitled to receive my textbooks I bought online within the next 4-6 business days. I’m entitled to not getting the car I paid for smashed into. I’m entitled to have my place in the classes I signed up and paid for.

But most importantly, I’m entitled to my body. And is it really so hard for men, the government, and my health care provider to let me keep this entitlement?

If you didn’t know, a little over a week ago George Sodini shot 12 women, killing 3, a little over a week ago. Why? Because he was frustrated since no woman was willing to go out with him. (Jessica posted about it , but I thought I’d recap anyway.)

Men’s Rights Activists are defending him by saying he was A Nice Guy.

A decent looking man who earns a good living and does not abuse women DESERVES to get laid. Period.

(There are more comments about Sodini at the link)

Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he was Prince Charming, had oodles and oodles of money, and was just the nicest guy that there ever could be, does that really take my bodily entitlement away? The problem with Sodini and the problem with those MRAs who made those comments is that they don’t see women as individuals who can decide what they chose to ...

5 Reasons why I don’t feel bad for Carrie Prejean

I know, I know, we’re over the Miss California shit. But I watched The Daily Show from two days ago, and Jon Stewart got me going again. (I don’t own a television so when I watched this episode on Hulu, it was the first time I’d seen Carrie Prejean on TV.)

So I’ll make this short. Is there sexist language shaming Miss California? Yes. Do I feel bad for her? Not really. Because:

1. She has no sympathy for gay rights. And no real logic or argument behind her conviction that two people shouldn’t be allowed to marry just because they’re the same sex. Her "religious beliefs" don’t count, as the bible in its English and Hebrew versions both never mention ...

Sick of having a visible vagina?

Look no further.

This fucking floors me. I don’t get how anyone could come to even think of this. Seriously? First off, I am getting sick of beauty myths spreading all over my vagina. My vag is fuckin’ gorgeous, and I don’t need a camel-toe-fixing hunk of plastic, waxing, or hymen replacement to feel that way.

Second off, the total ignorance about female (and male) anatomy is, well, astounding.

"Camel Toe might be hot… if you are a guy!!" … how exactly does, never mind.

"As we have evolved, hair down there is a thing of the past." Um, my vagina begs to differ. And since when does waxing have to do with evolution?

"because you don’t want everyone to see your damn uterus ...

Fuck you, “The Doctors”

Just in time for the Friday-Feminist-Fuck-You, I found out, via Margaret Cho’s myspace, that she had recently done an episode for the show "The Doctors," a CBS show that is, not surprisingly, produced by Dr. Phil and his son. The episode that she did was all about the lovely little reproductive organ, the vagina.

Unfortunately, this clip is all we’ll ever see of the episode because, well, I’ll let Ms. Cho say it:

"You can imagine how disappointed I was to hear that the show was never aired because the powers that be at the networks thought that it was too racy! That is ludicrous and ignorant and perpetuates the ‘mystery’ of the vagina! How are we supposed to ...

Sex and the City: Pro or anti-feminism?

Yesterday, I watched Sex and the City for the first time, under the influence of a few dorm-mates (yes, I do live under a rock.) While I was expecting it to be a half-hour of anti-feministic sexist stereotypes, it wasn’t. The show does portray the women as fashion-obsessed ‘uptown girls,’ but besides that, they’re not gold-diggers (they all seem to be settled into their own careers,) virgins, or women who divulge all their self worth into ‘getting/keeping a man.’ Plus it shows some feministic things that society deems ‘unacceptable.’ In the few episodes I did see, I saw two women having sex (and not fake-hot lesbian sex designed to get men to join), a woman using a dildo, and a ...

MTV Sexism never fails to amaze

Through a really, really vague connection, I’m friends with an MTV cameraperson on facebook. (I had a friend who was on an MTV reality show episode; but I won’t divulge.) I usually never think twice about MTV, until I got a request to join this facebook group , which is about a casting call for a new MTV show ‘Hot Chicks with Bad Boys.’ …

We all know MTV is sexist with every bit of programming, from ‘A Shot at Love’ (which I believe there’s an old community post about, though I don’t know who wrote it) to the most normal of music video programs (which are becoming more girls-gone-wild and less music-video-esque.) But seriously, that title just screams dumb ...

Making Fun of Vintage Sexism!

If the video doesn’t work, sorry. Just got a mac and unsure of how certain things work still. Here’s the link.
Anyway, if any of you don’t know MST3K (which you really should), it’s about a guy and some robots who make fun of B-movies and some shorts, such as this one. This particular short is an ‘educational’ film about grooming. It’s got some pretty awful sexism, which they hilariously berate. Enjoy!

Ever wanted to know how models actually look?

This website is a huge reality slap about the unfair standards of women’s beauty. Not to mention this guy’s slogan is " Nature gives us beauty – Artists enhance it". What a creeper; I think he’s actually proud of his so-call ‘art.’
