In the post-9/11 world of heightened airport scrutiny, Kates, like most travelers, is familiar with the drill: Take off shoes and belts, open the laptop, carry shampoo in 3 oz. bottles.

For Kates, on Sunday, though, the security check got too invasive. A big-busted woman wearing a large underwire bra, she set off the metal detector. She was pulled aside and checked by a female TSA agent with a metal-sensitive wand.

"The woman touched my breast. I said, ‘You can’t do that,’ " Kates said. "She said, ‘We have to pat you down.’ I said, ‘You can’t treat me as a criminal for wearing a bra.’ "

Nasty Advertisment

I was walking to the grocery store today. On the side of a liquor store (one that also has signage of bible quotes… wierd right?) was a liquor ad that was so nasty I had to stop and get a closer look.

I am a photographer, I’ve shot nudes. I understand that sex sells. I’m OK with nudes used in perfume ads for example, because that’s more of a lifestyle product. But a nude lady in a liquor ad? On the side of a building?

Well why don’t you just take a look.

Metal-free bras invented for use with bulletproof vests

"The impact of a bullet can push the metal and plastic bits of the bra into an officer’s body, causing serious injury," said Carmen Kibat, an adviser on equal opportunities for the Hamburg-based Bundespolizei – Germany’s federal police force.

"I always thought normal bras posed a safety risk and I wanted to change that," she said.

"These new bras are very important and they will help all our women officers."

Anti-rape Hints From Extremists Ring a Bell

“Forsake lipstick to avoid rape,” is the headline of this cute little piece from the Guardian. Lipstick and noisy high heels are dangerous come-ons according to some Malaysian officials of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party.

Mostly I’m just posting this because it’s all so familar, and maybe the association of a such silly ideas with dangerous conservatives will drive home how baseless such statements are.

Sure, maybe we’re all already feminists here on feministing but hey. The point is, blaming the victim for wearing “sexy” (attractive) clothing and makeup is dumb beyond belief. Normal women don’t wear even the most outrageous of clothes with the intent of being violated against their will. And most rapes (at least here) are from men we ...

Pro-Life Congressional Candidate Drove Ex-GF to Abortion Clinic

Woman details abortion, relationship with “pro-life” congressional candidate

What a charmer. The Oregonian reports that Congressional candidate Mike Erickson fabricates a bunch of bull how he didn’t know he gave his girlfriend money for an abortion, how she wasn’t his girlfriend, and how he stopped seeing her after the “doctor’s appointment” he drove her to. Lies, lies.

What’s funniest to me is that if he came clean and said “I made a choice that hurt me and that’s why I became pro-life,” he’d sound reasonable. But instead he’s chosen to act like his ex-girlfriend’s experience is untrue when there’s documented evidence she had the procedure and that he continued to see her afterwards.

I guess it just goes to show that unlogical ...
