Photo of the Day: Activists warn prospective Columbia students about rape mishandling

anti-rape activists holding signsYesterday, the student activist group No Red Tape crashed an info session for prospective students at Columbia University to make sure those considering attending the school “know the truth about Columbia’s mishandling of sexual and dating violence and their new completely inadequate prevention education programming.”

The group distributed a letter calling on prospective students to grill the college on its efforts to combat campus sexual assault. “We need your help to hold all colleges accountable, and urge you to demand information from Columbia and other schools you visit about what they are doing to keep students safe and address gender-based violence on campus.”

“President Bollinger and other administrators have publicly proclaimed that it is their top priority to address this issue,” says Barnard student and activist Michela Weihl. “However, it has become abundantly clear to us that the issue they truly care about is one of public relations, not student safety.” In that regard, Columbia is certainly not alone.
