MontCo. “Citizens for Responsible Gov’t” deem Transgender Folks too Irresponsible to use the (public) potty.

Imagine.
The world as we know it abruptly ends. Thousands of years from now, an alien race of anthropologists sift through the ruins of American Civilization, trying to understand what, and who, we were. Imagine they were to compile a list of what we, culturally, believed to to be The Worst Things Ever.
The first Worst Thing Ever would be easy: Anal Sex.
The second Worst Thing Ever would be Female Orgasms and anything associated with them (ie: vagina’s, feminine sexual pleasure/desire, et. al).
The third Worst Thing Ever might take some considering. The aliens would rub their chins if they had them with their fingers if they had them and ponder. Is Communism the third Worst Thing Ever? Maybe Terrorism? Or Liberals? Eventually, though, they’d come to it.
The third Worst Thing Ever is Transgender Folk Using Public Restrooms.
At least that’s what I’m given to believe from Kathleen Miller’s DC Examiner cover story yesterday.

Recently, “Citizens for Responsible Government” (CRG) in Montgomery County, MD collected the 25,000 signatures needed to put a recent measure prohibiting discrimination against transgender people on the ballot for possible recall. According to the CRG website, this law that “prohibits discrimination against transgender people in housing, employment, public accommodations, and taxicab and cable service,” (Miller) also has a nefarious side effect. CRG explains that “no longer will women and girls be able to feel completely safe in the most private and personal bathroom and locker facilities of schools, public pools, malls, stores, health clubs, restaurants and other such public places throughout the county.”
Apparently, bathrooms in MontCo presently have special chromosome detecting tasers that immediately disable any Y chromosome baring person from entering a female bathroom and assaulting someone. CRG apparently is concerned that these will be disabled, putting women and girls at risk.
Wait, no… that can’t be…
I know a lot of very conservative folks have limited contact with individuals on the transgender spectrum, and they probably are somewhat mystified as to what trannys DO in bathrooms. Fortunately, I have had a great deal of experience with transgender folks, public AND private bathrooms, as well as most household appliances, so perhaps I can enlighten them.
First and foremost: transgender folks primarily use the bathroom for urination and defecation, occasionally to check appearance or to make a short phone call at a restaurant. Much like social conservatives, most transgender people find public bathrooms an unpleasant place to hang out. I have known one transgender individual who would occasionally boost a roll of toilet paper from a public restroom for home use, but this type of petty theft is unrelated to gender identity, and may be easily remedied by not leaving rolls of toilette paper loose in the bathroom.
Transgender folks also have identical behaviors in regard to other common appliances. They use refrigerators, bathtubs, public transportation, futons, and televisions in the same manner and purpose as social conservatives (at least, I assume they do- I don’t know many social conservatives). One time, a transgender person used my blender to make pesto, but stuck a mixing spoon in to try and push the basil down, which caused the mixture to explode out of the blender on onto the ceiling. Other then that (and the time someone else grew a huge mason jar’s worth of kombucha tea on my Lazy-Susan and FORGET IT THERE, which is something I doubt anyone from Focus on the Family or CRG would do), I can confidently assert that transgender people create the same negligible amounts of wear-and-tear on most appliances as social conservatives.
Millers article suggests that “As the public becomes far more accepting of gays and lesbians, the religious right is looking for a new way to drive out their support base at election time, and they think this is going to be it.”
Maybe that’s it.
Interestingly, Miller’s article ends with a prayer from CRG’s website:
“May God move the Church and morally minded Americans to exercise their citizenship to restore balance before it is too late. May efforts to impose sexual identity confusion upon our children through law fail at the federal, state and local levels.”
I think that can be read at least two ways.
Hopefully God or the dictates of morality will move Americans to prevent politically active bigots from exploiting an already marginalized population to garner votes, now that the bloom is wilting on the “threat” of homosexuality. It would be a shame if the citizens of MontCo let it’s government backslide into legalizing pointlessly hostile and mean spirited behavior towards transgender people.
Amen. Hallelujah. Namaste.
