Mad Men Midweek Fix: Three Women

As always, this post contains a bunch of spoilers.

Joan’s deal

I feel like all season I’ve been the one saying, “Oooh, poor Pete! I feel so sorry for him!” and “Oooh Roger, he’s so damn charming!” So, for the record, fuck them. I can’t believe what a weasel Pete was–although it probably shouldn’t have been surprising. And Roger’s reaction to the proposition was just so sad. (Roger, who is the father of Joan’s baby, for fuck’s sake!) And the fact that Joan asked specifically if Roger had participated in the discussion made it all the more sad.

I haven’t read all that many other reactions, but it seems like some viewers didn’t find it believable that Joan would do ...

Mad Men Midweek Fix: Lady Lazarus

Here we go with this week’s take on the latest Mad Men from the Feministing crew. Let’s jump in and get discussing.

As always, tons of spoilers follow.

The title of the episode

Named after the famed Sylvia Plath poem, I guess this episode is about almost dying but then being revived. -Samhita

Megan’s career change

I’ve had pretty mixed reactions to Megan, but I gotta give props to anyone who makes the difficult choice to be an artist. Of course, the decisions quite a bit easier when you’ve got a rich spouse to support you. -Jos

I thought they did great job showing why this was such a hard decision for Megan on so many levels. Not only because she’s struggling to be what Don ...

Megan’s good idea

Is Megan legit boning her way to the top? It’s like Peggy is our boring, unsexy kind of feminist and Megan is the kind that Republicans love–hot, savvy, knows her man comes first but sometimes can assert herself. Maybe I’m throwing her under the bus–Megan’s idea was really good and Megan has shown that she is truly trying to navigate this relationship with her own ambitions–but I wanted to barf when she made it look like Don’s idea. The reason they rejected Peggy’s was because she acted like a man, the reason ...

Mad Men Midweek Fix: Far Away Places

Here we go with this week’s take on the latest Mad Men from the Feministing crew. This episode was pretty wild and got seriously intense. Let’s jump in and get discussing.

Peggy

I absolutely loved this episode. Coming off 4/20 I thought it was perfectly done. Peggy’s temper tantrum in the Heinz meeting made me cringe, first because I’m generally rooting for her but I felt that she came off as such a petulant sore loser in this scene, and then because I realized how much more willing I had been to accept such behavior from Don’s character than Peggy’s. #internalizedsexism -Lori

Peggy’s acting out–and with good reason. She works her butt off, she’s frustrated and she continues ...

Joan gets a promotion without a raise. “Well, it’s almost an honor.”

Ah, yes! The now time-honored tradition of the meaningless promotion. -Ann

Ken won’t use his father-in-law to be to reach Dow Chemical.

Go Ken. “Cynthia’s my life. My actual life.” And all the others look at him blankly. -Vanessa
