“It begs the question: Who are we here to represent?”

It really does. How in holy hell does a measure that has over 90% support in the public fail in the Senate? Apparently, a reasoned approach to gun ownership and safety, or any tools to mitigate gun violence in America, is patently ridiculous to members of Congress.

Gabby Giffords sounded off in a New York Times op-ed published late yesterday skewering Congress for their failure to rise to reason and surpass partisan politics. She asked us to join the next round of the fight in the best way we know how: at the ballot box.

I am asking every reasonable American to help me tell the truth about the cowardice these senators demonstrated. I ...

Telling women to get a gun is not rape prevention

Trigger Warning

On Tuesday night, I appeared on Hannity in a segment framed around the idea that giving women guns is the solution to ending rape.  I was on with Independent Women’s Forum’s Gayle Trotter who recently made the point that women need guns for self defense from rape and gun violence prevention is infringing on their second Amendment rights, as well as, putting them at greater risk for domestic violence and rape.

Obviously, I disagreed.  Giving every woman a gun is not rape prevention.  If a woman chooses to go out and buy a legal gun for self-defense, that’s fine.  But that shouldn’t be confused with actual prevention, which is really about stopping rapes before they happen ...

How inner city gun violence is a gendered issue

2013, following the trend set in the latter half of last year, has been the year of the glock. Everybody, and their mama, is talking about gun violence and gun control laws. Guns, guns, guns. I think it’s safe to say that we’ve been hearing about gun violence in two extremely different contexts. On the one hand, there are the isolated, mass shootings like the Colorado theater and Sandy Hook school incidents. And on the other hand, there are the shootings in inner cities, mostly communities of color. I want to clarify now that I am talking about the latter. I do not think that the deaths of shooting victims in either kind of shooting are more ...

Tuesday troll alert: Boy, I sure hope Todd Kincannon is single!

I can sort of see why this dude wouldn’t get the invite to the GOP retreat at the totes awesome plantation in Virginia back in January.

I mean, perhaps some folks in the GOP were thinking about what it would mean to empower someone like that who displays such sensitivity, really in touch with the zeitgeist. Or perhaps they thought after losing the 2012 elections, and recognizing the pluralistic reality of the American electorate, that this dude, the ‘honey badger of American Politics,’ (Kincannon’s actual Twitter bio) might be off message. This guy is so not helping in the effort to re-brand the Grand Old Party. While we can see this tweet as the troll bait it really is, yet ...

People who say more good guys with guns is the solution lack firing neurons

The NRA’s argument that more guns is necessary to prevent mass shootings, or any shootings was always nonsense.  The ridiculousness of this argument is on display yet again, with the recent news out of Georgia where a man shot and killed a young Latino man who accidentally pulled into his driveway.

Via NBC Latino:

Rodrigo Diaz, 22, was driving around with his girlfriend and two friends when he pulled into a driveway, thinking they had arrived at another friend’s house, his brother says. But instead he pulled into the driveway of Phillip Sailors, 69, who thought his home was being robbed, his lawyer says. Sailors then shot Diaz, according to the police report, citing what Sailors told officers at the ...

NRA attacks Sasha and Malia Obama

Here’s hoping that the gun violence prevention proposals coming out of Vice President Joe Biden’s task force are substantial. The American people deserve serious solutions on the issue of gun safety and it’s becoming more and more clear that now is the time to do it. Since the NRA has completely lost their minds.

Not only have they release a new game using human targets for practice, which is classy after the massacre of babies in Newtown, now they’ve gone after the First Daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama.

Headline of the Day: “Feminism Kills 27 at US High School”

Um, not quite…Anyway, this is some MRA parody level bullshit:

Today the world struggles to answer one question about Adam Lanza’s killing spree: Why?

As with many easy questions deliberately confused by the establishment, the answer is simple and in plain view.

‘Feminism’ killed 20 children and 7 adults at Sandy Hook school – not guns, not lack of ’support’ or ‘care’, and definitely not ‘evil’ DNA

Adam Lanza went from being relatively happy, highly intelligent, and a little insular to actively psychopathic after his mother threw his father out of their home.

And if there is one theme common to school killings that is precisely it: the absence of a strong father-son bond.

And while there is absolutely no reason to care one iota about what ...
