Did Akin “legitimate rape” doctor meet with Romney?
Via AP, Reuters
This is certainly interesting. It appears that Dr. John Wilke and Mitt Romney have a history. Even though the Romney camp is claiming a Romney administration would not ban abortion in all cases with no exceptions, Romney might have some explaining to do in terms of just how connected he is to the “doctor” that told Rep. Todd Akin that women can’t get pregnant from rape.
During the 2008 presidential election cycle, Wilke was an official surrogate for Romney. Here is the official press release welcoming to the Romney campaign back in 2007 as an “important surrogate.” Wilke also claims that just last year he met with Romney who said, “we agree on almost everything.” Now whether Romney was telling Wilke the truth, we might never know. Romney’s not exactly in love with the truth and will basically say anything to get elected, but the fact that there was a private meeting so recently is particularly alarming.
Via The Daily Telegraph:
I might need to grab some popcorn because watching Team Romney wiggle their way out of this one is going to be really entertaining. If he denies the meeting he risks alienating Dr. Wilke, who is very active in the anti-choice movement. If he confirms that the meeting happened it not only adds more life to the Akin story in the headlines it connects him even more directly to the controversy. If he says nothing the media will wonder aloud (kind of like I’m doing right now) and speculate.
