Obama announces new DHS immigration policy; right wingers sh*t themselves

As you’ve probably read, President Obama made what people are calling a surprise move on Friday by announcing that the Department of Homeland Security will relax immigration policy in efforts to halt the deportation of young undocumented immigrants. Some DREAM activists say this announcement is merely a reinforcement of not-so-successful efforts announced year ago by the administration that they would halt the deportation of many DREAMers and other young undocumented youth. Friday’s announcement also came during the same week that DREAMers had begun to stage a number of actions at different Obama campaign offices across the country.

But administration officials identify the policy as an evolution of the former one made last year, indicating that the clearly defined specifics put on the criteria this time around is what marks its significance. The policy would protect those whom:

1.)    Came to the United States under the age of sixteen;

2.)    Have continuously resided in the United States for a least five years preceding the date of this memorandum and are present in the United States on the date of this memorandum;

3.)    Are currently in school, have graduated from high school, have obtained a general education development certificate, or are honorably discharged veterans of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States;

4.)    Have not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanor offenses, or otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety;

5.)    Are not above the age of thirty.

What’s key is ensuring these changes are going to be executed with real impact, and we have to hold the administration to it. As many of us know, the Obama administration doesn’t have a great track record with immigration. But nonetheless, this is still a really good thing; reports are saying this policy will help over 800,000 undocumented youth in the US.

In the meantime, right wing haters are having a field day with the news; on the same day of the announcement, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio oh-so-coincidentally arrested an undocumented 6-year old girl. He claims there was no connection between the arrest and Obama’s announcement, but adds that if more young “illegals” enter the country after hearing the policy change, the increase of his arrests of younger immigrants may not be by happenstance: “Are we going to get more of these situations where illegals feel like now they’re going to be safe? I don’t know.”

Even during Obama’s announcement of the policy, a “reporter” from The Daily Caller yelled out his disapproval at the president. (Can we all agree that there needs to be a nationwide effort to put those assholes out of business?) So between arresting 6-year olds and publicly interrupting the POTUS, the smell of desperation (and tactlessness) is there, and it’s reeking. Keep it comin’, guys.

As for Romney, well, he’s shady as usual.
