We are having a great time running around meeting some of the most amazing activists in the country and seeing old friends. Thanks to everyone that came out to our panel yesterday and stuck through the room changes and lack of air conditioning. You rock!

Last year, my biz partner Kamy Wicoff and I launched a business on a mission: She Writes. Texas GOP platform would make it a felony to perform same sex marriages

Wowza. The Texas GOP platform is no joke scary. Not only would it make it a felony to perform same sex marriage (because “homosexuality tears at the fabric of society”), it would also ban oral and anal sex (because it tears at the…oh nevermind, too easy), and outlaw strip clubs and porn.
Some more gems from the platform:

Making make American English the official language of Texas and the United States.
Passing legislation requiring a sonogram for each pregnant woman seeking an abortion.
Opposing legislation allowing stem cell research involving the creation of killing of human embryos for medical research.

Okay, who wants to move to Texas? Anyone…. Bueller?

Please Give


Nicole Holofcener’s latest drama, Please Give, examines a handful of unhappy New Yorkers, most of them women, as they make their way through life wondering about their moral and familial responsibilities, their beauty (of course), and the sum of their worth in the world. Heavy ideas, explored through characteristic Holofcener characterization, all made lighter by a comic touch and a sense of human fallibility at its best.
It was good. But not that good.
Part of me wants to let Holofcener get away with a mediocre movie about funny, interesting, women because, hell, there aren’t enough of them. The writing was clever. The acting was great. Woody Allen gets to do it all the time, why shouldn’t Holofcener? ...

Former VP Al Gore accused of sexual assault

Well I certainly didn’t see this one coming. A massage therapist has accused former vice president Al Gore of sexually assaulting* her in a hotel room in 2006.

You can find a full report from a 2009 interview with the woman here – though be warned, it’s very graphic and very upsetting. Gawker also has a shorter run-down.

So far, most of the media coverage has focused on the fact that the woman contacted the police in 2006 but didn’t want to be interviewed or an investigation to be opened until early 2009, when she made a statement. She then canceled subsequent interviews with the police and her lawyer notified authorities that the matter would ...
