Does using the FCC help us with the fight against misogyny on the airwaves?

Like Jill, I am an ardent supporter of the minds, actions and words of the prominent feminists that penned this op-ed urging the FCC to push Limbaugh off the airwaves. In a perfect world, this strategy would make sense because that world would be fair and just and “public good” would mean supporting the rights of the marginalized irrelevant of race, class, gender or ability. But that is not this world. Leaked Limbaugh video: the shocking truth behind Rush’s apology to Sandra Fluke

As of Sunday, 98 advertisers have dropped Rush Limbaugh! This is despite Rush’s so called “apology” (or Rushology) to Sandra Fluke for his poor word choice. Perhaps not as many advertisers would have dropped Rush if there had been an ounce of sincerity in his apology. This video presents what the real Rush knows:  He’s not really sorry, he just doesn’t want to lose advertising.  He and the GOP hate women. And he’s the real “slut.”

A note about honoring Limbaugh…

Let’s jump right on in, shall we?

I’m a Missourian so trust that I am all over the decision by the Speaker of the Missouri House to honor Rush Limbaugh with a bust in the Hall of Famous Missourians.

Some have questioned the outrage claiming that Limbaugh is famous and a Missourian thus qualifying him for honor in the Hall.

My response?

Limbaugh is infamous and there is a difference.

The thought of honoring Limbaugh in my House with my hard earned tax dollars turns my stomach, but my outrage is sourced in more than that.

Limbaugh is scheduled to be honored along with Dred Scott.

Yep, that’s right – Missouri is set to honor a bigot known for segregation nostalgia, public displays of ignorance, ...

Rush’s “I’m sorry for calling you a slut because it provoked a boycott” apology doesn’t stop AOL pulling advertising

So far, a total of eight companies– Carbonite, Citrix, Go To Meeting, Legal Zoom, ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, Sleep Number, Sleep Train and, as of today, AOL–have pulled advertising from Rush Limbaugh’s radio show over the Viagra-popping hate jockey’s mysoginist statements about Sandra Fluke, which include calling her a slut and prostitute and imploring her to film herself having sex. The media is saying that Rush Limbaugh has apologized. But I don’t think the following is an apology, do you?

In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.

This is a couple of days old, but I found it too good to not cover. On his radio talk show on Friday, Rush Limbaugh responded to the campaign that fights sexism and misogyny in the media, Name It, Change It, by being a sexist and misogynist asshole in the media:

On his November 5 radio show, Rush Limbaugh refuted our accusations of sexism – by calling us “NAGs” and “feminazis.”
