“Remember me as a revolutionary communist.” RIP, Leslie Feinberg.

Calling Leslie Feinberg, who died this past weekend, a trans writer and activist does a disservice to the incredible breadth of radical intersectional work ze did as an “anti-racist white, working-class, secular Jewish, transgender, lesbian, female, revolutionary communist” — from writing the influential novel Stone Butch Blues to editing the communist Workers World newspaper, from mobilizing against the KKK in Atlanta to defending Buffalo, NY from anti-choicers.

Rest in power: Queer theorist José Esteban Muñoz dies at 46

Highly regarded and influential queer theorist and NYU Tish School of the Arts professor José Esteban Muñoz died yesterday at the age of 46. Philipp Lenssen: Can you give some examples of misogyny or racism?

Aaron Swartz: If you talk to any woman in the tech community, it won’t be long before they start telling you stories about disgusting, sexist things guys have said to them. It freaks them out; and rightly so. As a result, the only women you see in tech are those who are willing to put up with all the ...

RIP Journalist Marie Colvin, Killed in Syria

Award-winning Sunday Times female journalist Marie Colvin was killed in the Syrian city of Homs yesterday when shells hit the house in the Baba Amr district of Homs in which she was staying and she was hit by a rocket attack when she tried to escape. French photographer Remi Ochlik was also killed in the attack.

Colvin was a well-respected American female war reporter known for her bravery and dedication to high-level reporting from inside war-torn and violent areas. I have a massive amount of respect for her work in a male-dominated and highly dangerous field, and am so inspired by the fact that she provided a great service to the world right up until the last days of her ...
