Articles with headlines like “Trump Contraception Move Could Lead to More Abortions” and “Donald Trump’s Coming Abortion Surge” have pointed out that increased contraception use tends to lead to a decrease in abortions.

While the US cuts abortion access, Australia likely to increase it

Good news, antipodean abortion lovers! The Australian government announced today that RU486, the abortion pill, is one step closer to being included in the government’s Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, making it easier for patients to afford.

How easy? Like, between $12 and $36 easy. Which is a far cry from its current cost of $300-$800 (which is about what it is in the US, too).

Health Minister Tanya Plibersek was waiting on the advice of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, which announced yesterday that it will add miseprostol and mifepristone to the list of drugs that should be subsidised by the government. The ABC reports that,

What did you do this weekend? Did you attend a rally to protest the Obama administration’s infringement on religious liberty? Probably not. Because even if you did go to Friday’s Stand Up for Religious Freedom rally in Washington, D.C., that’s not what that rally was about.

NARAL Pro-Choice America president Nancy Keenan to step down

Yesterday, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, Nancy Keenan, announced that she will be stepping down at the end of the year. Sarah Kliff at the Washington Post reported:

The 60-year-old Keenan said she is leaving out of concern for the future of the pro-choice movement — and thinks she could be holding it back.
