Feminists: making everything harder for god-fearing gentlemen who feel entitled to get laid. We’ve come a long way from the good old days when men had a right to sex with their wives regardless of women’s opinion on the matter (marital rape was legal in the US until the 20th century). New favorite Instagram: Feminist_Tinder

I’m definitely swiping right on Feminist_Tinder, a new Instagram account where one woman is documenting what it’s like navigating Tinder as a feminist. Laura Nowak just added the line “hello i am a feminist” to her profile, and the guys do the rest.

The personal is political, and also personal: Why choosing to date within your race isn’t racist

I fear that I’m about to wade into all kinds of messy territory, but alas, that is the work of feminist critical thinking. This morning I came across a Slate piece by Reihan Salam about why expressing a same-race preference on dating websites is racist. I beg to differ. Salam’s main argument comes down to this:

“There are good reasons to question the moral appropriateness of strong same-race preferences and their close cousin, in-group favoritism. We all really need to stop caring about Lebron James’ mother’s sex life

Meet Lambo.

Lebron James’ mother is dating a rapper who is only three years older than him, and who likes to publicly express admiration for the two-time NBA champion. This apparently threatens the collective ego of basketball fans around the country.

Since the Internet uncovered this guy, fans and haters have gleefully pointed to comments on the rapper’s Instagram account big-upping Lebron, calling him a “role model” before declaring that “life is about being positive”. They openly mock photos where he displays LeBron’s championship ring and models it for the camera (Deadspin helpfully points out that he “has to use two fingers” because the ring is too big on him).

Trevor, who is really good at flirting, likes to get women’s attention by flashing them:

(Day After) Wednesday Weigh-In: Dating While Feminist

Dating seems to be on everyone’s minds lately. Perhaps it’s part of the new year, new me, new boo energy still lingering in the air. Even here at Feministing we’ve been talking about “Crazy Blind Dates” and the challenges to Darwin’s dating ideas. And much of what I hear about dating in hip hop revolves around Christian Louboutins. All of this is wonderful, for someone who isn’t me.

To put it simply, dating while feminist, black, queer, polyamorous, broke, and loud means not dating, kind of. Surely even the most brilliant parody of Nice Guy syndrome can’t compete with the real things said by self-proclaimed “nice guys.” And OkCupid is clearly the best environment to watch them in action. Check out the new Tumblr “Nice Guys” of Okcupid to see their utter lack of self-awareness on full display. (Spoiler: Being “friendzoned” is apparently the worst thing in the whole world.)
