Personal Story: Get Your Pap Done!

And Also Why I Have A New Sympathy For Women Who Have Surgical Abortions…

Hi, I’m PamelaVee and I am 24.

This all started about a year ago. I am one of the Americans that is not insured for health so I don’t see the doctor. If anything is wrong, I wait in line forever at the low cost clinic. I see the Health Dept. for pap smears and birth control at no cost because I do not make enough. I do work and I am good with $, I just don’t have a lot of it. But this isn’t a debate about health care/insurance.

Anyhow, the health dept called about a year ago (terrifying to get a call from them) and said I had abnormal cells. I needed to get a colposcopy. That is like a pap smear but they take a little sample, like getting your ears pierced.

FYI- Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a cause of cervical cancer. There are over 100 strains of HPV and can cause anything from abnormal skin appearance, to warts, etc. The type I have if obviously the kind that causes abnormal cells. 3 out of 4 sexually active people have HPV.

Anti-Choice Scum Ruining Everyone’s Spring Break

Hi All. This is basically a rant.

I live on the Gulf Coast, and saw something really, really tacky and disgusting today.

Because of Spring Break, there have been HUGE air billboards flying back and forth across the beach. (A plane will basically tow a large banner in the air).So far we’ve seen Geico and some others.

Well the topic of today’s banner? ABORTION! That’s right folks. They had a (medically inaccurate since it was further developed) picture of a "10-week" fetus all hacked up. Bloody arm and whatnot. Perfect for kids everywhere to see.They also had their website which I don’t care to re-post, lest they get more hits.

If they REALLY, truly cared about reducing abortions they would have sponsored a condom ...

Good Anti-FGM Charities?

Hi all! I am going to be making some items with part of the money going to charity. I wanted to do specifically anti-FGM (Female Genital Mutilation). I looked a little online (such as Stop FGM/C), but wanted to know if some of you had any other suggestions or personal experiences with other charities as well.

Please make sure there is no animal use/exploitation involved in these charities as well.

Midol and their Body-Shaming Commercials

Not sure if anyone’s seen the newer Midol commercial, but they have the oh-so-catchy phrase "Reverse The Curse!". I was a bit irritated they’d use such an old and sexist term.I couldn’t find the commercial, but if you can, pleae feel free!

I’m not sure how many letters you’ve received, if any, regarding your new Midol commercial.
I find it to be pretty irritating, and pandering to negative stereotypes, using an old a superstitious phrase. "The Curse"? Really? Is that necessary? How many of your commercials feature that phrase where men’s and women’s (or just men’s) health is involved…and what year is this?
