Interesting Development

We’ve all heard the spiel.  Birth Control Pills and the HPV-preventing shot encourages promiscuity and makes women and girls into sex-craved sluts.  Regardless of the fact that there is no evidence to support this thinly-veiled misogyny.  ANti-choice activists use this reason to try and get these essential drugs restricted on the market, or even removed.  

 

But then this popped up on my Google News page.  Seems like men who take drugs for erectile dysfunction are two to three times more likely to contract an STD.

Will people be clamoring for Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis to be yanked from the shelves because it makes the men who take it into sex-craved horn-dogs?  Anyone?  Bueller?  Didn’t think so.

I Put My Ring on My Left Hand

I was feeling anxious.  I was crampy, slightly nauseous, and my period, while wonky anyway due to my Mirena, hadn’t made an appearance.  I figured I’d be a big girl and buy a pregnancy test for the first time.  I figured I’d get one from the grocery store.  No biggie.

The Misogyny Surrounding Michelle Duggar

Mny of us have heard of the Duggar family. The Duggars are adherants of the Quiverfull Movement, which, in a nutshell, believes that limiting how many children you conceive and give birth to to be denying gifts from God, thus they have many children and do not practice any form of birth control. The Duggars are arguably the most prominant Quiverfull family there is after their Discovery Show “The Duggar’s Big Family Album.” In total they have seventeen children, and Michelle Duggar is currently pregnant with number 18, due on New Years Day 2009.

Misogyny and Strip Club Laws

The adult entertainment industry is a subject rife with controversy.  Modern society has a deep love/hate relationship with pornography, exotic dancing, and prostitution.  As time goes on, we have become more accepting of the less tangible facets of adult entertainment, namely pornography and exotic dancing, coming to see both as private, harmless recreation, but this is only with the consumer in mind.  The bureaucratic view of the entertainers is tinged with contempt.  For this article I will focus on stripping and the legal red tape surrounding the business.

The Anti-Choice Gauntlet

Many moons ago, I was on the pill.  I took it religiously, but as a human, i’m prone to mistakes.  I missed two pills, and in a moment of lapsed judgement, had condomless sex with my longer term boyfriend.  The next day I was on a wild goose chase for the coveted Plan B pill.

Sex Workers vs. Feminism

I am a young woman.  I am 22 years old (at the time of this post), a student in college, and a sex worker.  I’m currently an exotic dancer at a local club.  It’s a job I enjoy for more than it’s pay, namely it’s flexibility, which comes in handy for scheduling around tests and personal events.  I’m a clean dancer and I’m not ashamed of being a sex worker.
