Breaking News: Adam Lambert is GAY

I only caught the last 10 minutes or so of the American Music Awards (AMAs) and apparently I caught the best, or at least most controversial part. No, not Taylor Swift winning a bazillion awards. I’m talking of course about Adam Lambert. Two things were going through my head during his performance. #1. This song kinda sucks. #2. Huh… he’s being pretty sexual/risque in this performance.

Now, I didn’t think either of these thoughts would make the morning news the next day, but clearly I was wrong. I didn’t think Adam Lambert kissing a guy on stage during the performance was a big deal or would make headlines and I certainly didn’t think the sexuality he exhibited would make news either. Yes, there was gyrating, yes there was bondage like costumes, yes there was even some sexual "simulation" but you know what, it was nothing I haven’t seen before, mostly or almost exclusively by female performers. I am thinking Madonna, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Lil Kim, Lady Gaga, etc. If you think about some of the performances done by these ladies in the past, is it really that different in regards to the sexuality displayed in the performance than Adam Lambert’s performance at the AMAs?

The firestorm after Adam’s performance started almost immediately. He was scheduled to be on Good Morning America the next morning, on ABC, the same network that aired the AMAs, and that appearance was promptly canceled. This gave ...

More on “The Pill Kills Day”

The American Life League is sponsoring “The Pill Kills” on June 6th. Last year’s theme was “how the pill kills babies.” This year they are changing their theme, probably because the pill does not in fact kill babies. The pill actually is designed so that if taken properly, you will generally NOT get pregnant. Women take birth control pills to PREVENT pregnancy not to end a pregnancy. Some birth control 101 for you in case you, like The American Life League, were unaware of that fact.

This year’s theme is “the pill kills women.” According the American Life League:

“Studies show that most women who have died from the use of the pill or other birth control products ...

Birth Control is for Sluts!

So says Jill Stanek.   Jill is not happy that the Feminist Majority Foundation is encouraging college feminists to protest their local pregnancy care center on April 13th, even though in Jill’s own words, " pro-lifers around the country now gather twice annually at abortion mills (annoying pro-life buzzword for clinics) for 40 days, often around the clock (aside from thousands of other times annually)"

The reason the Feminist Majority Foundation is protesting pregnancy care centers is because they often mislead women , specifically on the link between abortion and breast cancer (which is none, according the American Cancer Society and The National Cancer Institute, the effect of abortion on future fertility, and the mental ...

Recessionista

As in "Tyra’s Recessionista Fashion Tips." Now I know why I’m not a talk show host. Because if I were, my show would be called, "Here’s a Tip – Your Ass is Broke. Stop Buying Shit."

To me, the whole "Recessionista" trend seems like a bunch of rich girls saying "omg, I can’t believe my dad I bought this purse for $1495.00. I could totally get a knock off brand for only $500.00."

It’s like this chick at work who got designer sunglasses that normally cost $300.00 for only $100.00. What a deal! Until you realize you’re paying $100.00 for sunglasses. I realize everything is relative. And that a socioeconomic class exists ...

No, Actually I Won’t Shut Up.

*Just to warn everyone upfront, this is a rant.  I don’t know if this is the kind of stuff people want to read about on Feministing, but I thought there might be someone here who can relate…

You know, I remember the exact day it started. It started when I was researching birth control. I was about to get married, and I knew nothing about it.I didn’t even know that if you were on the pill, you had to take it everyday, and I certainly didn’t know you had to take it at the same time everyday. I didn’t learn about it from my mom, who thought the pill was dangerous and whose preferred birth control method during ...

“Head and Master” Laws

Newsweek recently ran an article called "The Religious Case for Gay Marriage" (no, seriously.)

Many interesting points/arguments are made and there is a ton of feedback/outrage which they also posted. However, there was one thing mentioned in the article that absolutely shocked me and it has nothing to do with gay marriage.

From the article…

"…and by the 1970s most states had gotten rid of their "head and master" laws, which gave husbands the right to decide where a family would live and whether a wife would be able to take a job."

I honestly had no idea these laws existed, especially as recently as 1970s. I thought women gained property rights in the 1920s (although I ...

Teacher Binds Two Black Girls to Teach Lesson on Slavery

This is absolutely outrageous. No teacher should EVER tie up kids in a classroom, no matter what the intentions were. There is also obviously an additional emotional impact on the two black girls picked for this "activity" as well as black students in general. (for more see this) post over at Womanist Musings)

The teacher apologized for "causing any problems for the child" but not for "using that simulation during class." Wow… this is more than a simple "bad decision." This needs to reach national news, and this teacher needs to get fired.

Teacher forces critical thinking

WorldNetDaily has a post about a teacher who had the nerve to make senior level English students think critically about the ways that the homesexual population is treated by society.  She had them fill out a questionnaire that was meant to aid discussion that included the following questions:

What do you think caused your heterosexuality? When and how did you decide you were a heterosexual? Is it possible that your heterosexuality is just a phase you may grow out of? Is it possible that your heterosexuality stems from a neurotic fear of others of the same sex? Do your parents know that you are straight? Do your friends and/or roommate(s) know? How did they react? Why do you insist on flaunting your heterosexuality? Can’t you ...
