Women and the Presidential Election

With all of the ad’s I’ve seen on Facebook and YouTube that are clearly from the Romney campaign, I’m beginning to get a little worried about the upcoming election. In a few days, the world we live in as women could be drastically different. Let’s hope not! I decided to respond to all of this Romney nonsense with a video diary, as published on Yahoo! News and YouTube.

As women and feminists, we absolutely cannot allow Romney to enter the white house. His sexist religion and conservative mindset will be the driving force of all of his decisions if he becomes President of the United States. And frankly, he’d probably only make the economy worse. Obama is the ONLY candidate we have right now that will allow us a choice, and whether you like him or not, as a woman you must realize that Romney isn’t any better for you.

I urge you now: do not be cynical, do not think that your vote will make no difference. Things are not perfect for women right now, and there is a great deal of room for political improvement as far as the feminist movement is concerned, but we can’t allow ourselves to take more steps backward. Even if you think Obama will do nothing for us, be aware that Romney would like to take away most of the things that were already done. He’d probably be happy to take away our right to vote if ...

As strong-willed as I am, I value my right to vote dearly.  Not only am I pleased that I can vote, but also that I’m able ...

Oh, to be a medieval wife!

I am currently reading ‘Queen By Right’ by author Anne Easter Smith, a book I highly recommend. ‘Queen By Right’ tells the story Cecily Neville, Duchess of York, who is portrayed as someone harboring many feminist ideas, though she cannot speak openly about them.  Some of Joan of Arc’s story is told in the novel as well, which proves to be quite interesting.  You really get a good idea of the oppression that women suffered at the time. Anyway, my point here is not about how interesting the novel is, but about a homily the author chose to quote.

The homily was written by a French merchant for his new, young bride, in the late 1300’s.  It was named ‘Goodman of Paris,’ and ...
