Feminist summer internship/activities?

I am already starting to think about things I might want to do over the summer.  I am leaning towards being a counselor at a camp and I know those applications are due early.  So here is my question: are there any feminist summer camps? Or just ones that are not the traditional camp routine? (not that those are bad, I just want something different).  Or if it wasn’t a camp are there any other opportunities that are over the summer that might be good for someone who is looking to further their knowledge about feminism while also inspiring others to learn? I’m also especially passionate about comprehensive sex ed, if you have any suggestions in that area too.

Any and all suggestions are appreciated!

(oh and I will be graduating in May with my Masters degree but am hoping to work in a school, which is why I am looking for things to do over the summer!)

Pledge-a-protester is “slimy”

Today I made my facebook status a link to Planned Parenthood’s Pledge-a-Protester donation site.  In less than an hour of posting it one friend "liked" the status while another left a comment.  Here’s what she said:

"This is slimy. I’m sorry, but think about it. You have a belief. You go out and exercise your right to voice that belief. People who believe the opposite of what you believe are playing this game of counting how many of you there are and making money on the basis that you are exercising your right to represent your belief in the world. I happen to be pro-life, but this would be disgusting to me no matter what the issue was. ...

Marital effects of pre-marital sex shaming

I know it is rare that I am the only one who feels a certain way about something, yet in this situation I certainly feel unique and am hoping to find out that I am not the only one so deeply affected.

A little background: I grew up fairly active in the church, a Disciples of Christ church.  Within the denomination the churches can be either more liberal or more conservative, it varies with each individual church.  However my youth minister was definitely conservative.  Through him, various camps led by the more conservative adults, and conferences we attended, I heard the “don’t have sex until you are married” speech many times and it really stuck with me. I am pretty sure ...

Looking for friendship

I am looking for a women’s group/feminist group to join in the Dallas area.  I know there must be something out there, though I’m not exactly sure what I’m looking for.  I’m hesitant but I almost want to say a sort of sorority for those out of college (I just graduated last year, didn’t do the sorority thing there and not quite sure how I feel about them) or even like a girl scouts for adults thing.  I know that may sound weird but I am looking for a group of women to become life long friends with while also doing some charity work or have a common purpose as well.

I hope this made at least a little sense and ...

Dallas Cowboy’s Cheerleaders

The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders has their “making the team” show for the 3rd season now. I started watching it last year, only because one of my professors told us that one of the recent grads made the team. So I thought it would be really neat to be able to see her on tv (which it was!). I remember watching it last year and getting really mad sometimes, one time even driven to tears.
