Assholes vs. Apologists

This is a regular article in the opinion section in my school’s magazine, Miami Quarterly. It is always offensive, but this edition’s article is just more offensive than ever before. The feminist group on campus, of which I am vice president, will be sending letters to both Ryan Bakita and the Editor-in-Chief of this publication. We’re going to compose and send one well thought out letter to the editor, but we plan to completely flood the inbox of Ryan Bakita, the author. If any of you have any comments you’d like to pass on to him, you can do so here.

Disclaimer: We realize that the "Girls" section is no better than the "Boys" section, but it is at least less infuriating.

Feminist Bonding Activities?

I’m having a sleepover/retreat for my feminist group. We’re going to paint potter, eat food and watch my favorite movie, Iron Jawed Angels . Also we’re going to do some bonding activities, since that’s kind of the idea of having the sleepover. Does anyone have any suggestions for good feminist bonding activities, or just good general ones?

Pro Choice Films

I am the vice president of the Pro Choice group on my campus, and we are trying to plan a film screening and discussion panel. We’re having some trouble coming up with a film to show. We want something contemporary enough that people will come to it, but also topical. Dirty Dancing is our fallback, but it’s kind of overused. I do not want to show Knocked Up or Juno, which are two suggestions I’ve gotten so far, I’d really like something that is a little more topical so that there is more to talk about in the discussion. Any ideas?

Feminist Tattoos?

I am really interested in getting a tattoo, but I want it to mean something to me, so I really want a feminist-themed tattoo. It’s probably going to be on my right hip. I want it to be easy to cover up but also somewhere that I could show someone if I wanted. Right now I’m considering Rosie the Riveter but I really want other suggestions! Do you have a feminist tattoo? If not, do you know anyone who does or have any ideas?
