I’m incredibly proud of the diversity of voices represented on our team, but the biggest challenge to continuing to bring in marginalized voices (a project that’s never done) is money. We don’t have VCs knocking down our door begging to fund a site that cares more about uplifting perspectives that are underrepresented in mainstream media than we do about pageviews. We are working hard to build a sustainable Feministing, but it’s an uphill climb for a site that started as an unpaid labor of love. We’d love to have more trans women of color writing for the site, more perspectives from the labor movement, etc. But it’s hard and often unfair to bring these folks on if we can’t adequately compensate them. And it’s well past time to pay everyone who’s already busting ass more than small stipends for the work they’re doing.

With your help we can continue fighting to end dehumanizing media about trans women, furthering the conversation on intimate partner violence in queer communities, highlighting LGBT folks’ experiences with police profiling, and so much more.
