Experiencing online harassment? There’s a form for that.

#NotAllBirds

ICYMI, women face terrible harassment online, and Twitter is no exception. GamerGate is just the most recent and most visible chapter of long-unchecked online abuse against women — particularly trans women, women of color, and women from other marginalized communities — but social media companies have been slow to step in.

Luckily, the Women, Action, and the Media (WAM) is ready to take action. The feminist org has teamed up with Twitter to support women experiencing gendered harassment. WAM explains:

WAM! will escalate validated reports to Twitter and track Twitter’s responses to different kinds of gendered harassment.  At the end of the pilot test period, WAM! will analyze the data collected and use it to work with Twitter to better understand how gendered harassment intersects with other types of harassment, how those attacks function on their platform, and to improve Twitter’s responses to it.

You can report harassment through this handy form.

I’m cautious but also excited to see what comes of this. I think the internet could be really great if we could just figure this piece out.
