Are Republicans going to try to impeach Obama?

I’m surprised it took House Republicans three years to talk impeachment.  Certainly, when they won back the House, which is where the impeachment process begins, I imagined “impeachment” would become part of our collective lexicon again as the Republicans went after another Democratic president.

The loss of the White House in 2012, allowed House Republicans the freedom to beat the conspiracy drum yet again, with no fear of a general election backlash for overreach.  With the current news cycle overflowing with “scandals,” that wouldn’t even make Olivia Pope blink, we now have to pretend along with the mainstream media that the president is in some second term “curse” and that the GOP is charging up the road with Articles of Impeachment in hand.  Right now the Republicans who have dropped the “I” word are (via Talking Points Memo):

Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK)

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT)

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX)

Rep. Trey Radel (R-FL)

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX)

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN)

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC)

Rep. Steve King (R-IA)

Say what you want about drones and other legitimate gripes with the current administration, this impeachment talk is ridiculous.  Not only is it not justified, but it will ensure that Republicans never again make inroads with people of color again.  So much for that outreach to black voters.  Impeach the first black president and the GOP will remain a mostly white straight party for another generation.  Way to go guys!
