Republican Congressman attacks Sasha and Malia Obama

First it was the NRA, and now it’s Republican Congressman Steve King’s (R-IA) turn to attack the Obama girls.  It all started when Breitbart.com bucked traditional protocol of never revealing the location of the First Daughters who spent their spring break in the Bahamas, for obvious security reasons.

I thought I made myself clear before when I said that Sasha and Malia Obama should be off limits.  Where are the responsible members of the GOP?  When something like this happens it shouldn’t only be liberals and feminist bloggers calling it out.  Republicans need to check their own folks, who don’t seem to have much sense not to attack two young women who are just enjoying their lives as much as possible in the public eye.

CALLER: When I see the First Lady and the beautiful girls going off to the Bahamas waving goodbye to us, it’s really hard to stomach. When we’re tightening our belts, either all of us should do it or none of us should do it. This, I am pretty tolerant, I always have been, I usually shut my mouth. This is not acceptable.

KING: Carla, you’re on point and on the mark all the way through. […] You’re right on the president. He needs to show some austerity himself. Instead he wanted to tell America how bad it was going to be. […] We’ve got the president doing these things. He sent the daughters to spring break in Mexico a year ago. That was at our expense, too. And now to the Bahamas at one of the most expensive places there. That is the wrong image to be coming out of the White House.

No, congressman.  Just no.  You are way out of bounds.  The new “concern” with the expenses of the First Family is out of bounds, especially when it deals with the Obama girls.  All of a sudden, anyone of the First Family going on vacation is controversial, when Republicans seemed non-plussed with all of the brush clearing that George W. Bush did at his Texas ranch while he was busy destroying the world.

Why can’t Republicans just agree to not attack these two teenagers who were only trying to enjoy their spring break?  Republicans don’t get it but every time they attack the Obama girls, they are less likely to make inroads with minority voters, no matter how much “outreach” they do.
