Yeah, fucking hilarious… Australian footballers and sexual assault (Trigger Warning)

This is a desperate post from Down Under.

Three Brisbane Broncos players were questioned by police after a 24-year-old woman alleged she was sexually assaulted in the male toilets of the Alhambra Lounge in inner-city Fortitude Valley last Saturday night.

As Jessica noted , Not a single Australian footballer has EVER been convicted of sexual assault in 28 years, despite so so many bloody allegations being made. What is even more concerning is the public reaction to the allegations. Even the (female) Police Minister said that fans should continue to support the team and ‘encouraged’ the public not to judge the players.

Over the last few days, I have been so upset by the public reaction on news websites and social networks. People are attacking the media for reporting the story, making sick jokes, and rallying behind the football team as though they have overcome a tragedy. The media have apparently ‘ruined’ the teams chance of finals success. There are even fans on the Brisbane Broncos Facebook fan page saying the whole thing was set up by rival football team , Melbourne Storm.  WTF?? These are not the voice of a few, this is the WIDESPREAD public sentiment; men AND women have put their names next to these comments on Facebook…

Examples the sentiments that have literally plagued public spaces (trigger warning) :

The girl is a slut!!! taking the boys back for a head job, consensual sex then claiming RAPE!!! i wanna punch the mole in the face for ruining our premiership dreams!!!

Its all a bunch of sh!t. If some chick voluntarily follows these boys into the toilets, she know’s what she’s in for. A good ol’ Bronco Buck.

They are a mis understood bunch and Media targets, they have done nothing wrong and we should show them this by turning up to the game and telling the media to leave alone!

She too should feel honoured that she just got ganked by 3 Broncs.

Is this girl not human? Is she plastic? A piece of meat that deserves to be raped and made fun of?

Is it only ever not OK to call the girl a slut if she is your sister/girlfriend?

Why is rape just so fucking funny, and how does the ultimate suffering become the ultimate joke?

How is the result of a fucking football match more important than the girl’s welfare to these idiots?

Why is it that ‘the slut deserved it’ if she agreed to oral sex?

And finally, WHY THE FUCK CAN’T PEOPLE GET IT INTO THEIR HEADS THAT A WOMAN CAN SAY NO WHENEVER SHE FEELS AND THAT ANYTHING BEYOND THAT IS RAPE?

I am so mad. I’m leaving the country for good soon to take up an overseas job. I was nervous about the move, but now I’m just glad I don’t have to be exposed to this utter shit.

If our government won’t condone this shit, who will?
