Vote today! Because if the GOP wins the Senate, we’ll be wasting a lot of time fighting about abortion

Remember how much time the GOP-led House of Representatives has spent putting our reproductive rights and health up for debate over the last couple years? And that’s even though everyone knew their extremist agenda would never make it past the Senate.

Quote of the Day: “White men in male-only clubs are going to do great in my presidency.”

As we learned during the last election, sometimes there’s nothing like a recording of a closed-door event with supporters to reveal what politicians really think. In a private event at the all-male Hibernian Society of Charleston, Senator Lindsey Graham, who is considering a presidential run, told the audience:

“I’m trying to help you with your tax status. I’m sorry the government’s so fucked up. If I get to be president, white men in male-only clubs are going to do great in my presidency.”

Chart of the Day: Voters know that abortion is about economic justice and gender equality

The anti-choice movement has done its damndest to isolate the issue of abortion. Conservative politicians are prone to dismissing reproductive rights as a divisive “social issue” that’s less serious than–and completely disconnected from–the “bread and butter” economic issues their voters supposedly care about more. But a new poll commissioned by the National Institute for Reproductive Health suggests that Americans are not fooled—instead, they easily make the connections between access to abortion, economic stability, and women’s broader gender equality.

White men make up 31 percent of the population but hold 65 percent of elected offices in the US

A coalition of non-profits called Who Leads Us analyzed the demographics of 42,000 elected officials at all levels of US government to determine just how much political power is concentrated in the hands of white men. Unsurprisingly, the answer is: a shit-ton!

Scott Walker’s ad claiming he’s moderate on abortion gets a much-needed annotation

As we know, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is the worst–on a great many issues, including abortion, which he believes should be outlawed completely.

But now that he’s up for re-election and facing an ad campaign by Emily’s List highlighting his terrible record on reproductive rights, he apparently hopes people will forget all about that. In a new ad, dubbed “brazenly misleading” by Mother Jones, Walker does his best to claim he’s somehow a “reasonable” moderate on abortion rights without outright lying through his teeth. Here’s a version that’s been helpfully annotated by LOL GOP so you can hear what he really means.
