Supporting Torture and Deportation Isn’t Feminist

Last week, in response to a growing argument by the left that ICE should be defunded and abolished, in the wake of its persistent and systemic human rights abuse, Democrat senator Kamala Harris stepped up to the plate to defend the agency’s existence. Meanwhile, her counterpart, Dianne Feinstein, was busy defending another institution responsible for flagrant human rights abuse: the C.I.A., and specifically, its new director, Gina Haspel, who she described as “a good deputy director.”

Feminist Fuck Yeah: Women Throw Beach Party to Protest French Islamophobia

This morning, protesters gathered outside the French embassy in London, poured bags of sand, and staged a beach party complete with deck chairs, inflatables, and women in a wide array of clothing, from bikinis to burkinis, to protest France’s racist ban on “religious swimwear” in its coastal towns.

“Women want guns”: In the wake of Sandy Hook, conservatives once again co-opting women’s voices to further agenda

The horrific Sandy Hook shooting has prompted many moments of national and personal reflection. Since the tragedy, the debate over gun control has felt a bit more tangible and urgent, with many leaders and politicians, most notably President Obama, calling for change and enacting stricter laws and policies.

The tragedy has also reignited a conversation here on Feministing about gun violence and masculinity.

But apparently for media outlets like Fox News and the National Review, not much has changed- they are still just as eager to further their conservative pro-gun policies using empty, faux-feminist pro-woman rhetoric, despite the fact that studies overwhelmingly show that women are more supportive of stronger gun laws, consistently and across party lines.
