Femininity impedes the revolution?

There’s an interesting post today over at I Blame the Patriarchy. In a post titled “Only sub-human”, she gives her views on femininity, stating that it “impedes the revolution”. The politics of a good haircut

After a lovely few weeks off to visit family, I called my favoured hair salon in Ottawa where I go to school to set up an appointment with my only trusted stylist. You see, I had been through a few tragic hair disasters until a year ago when I finally found someone who cut it right every time and also made me feel fantastic. Plus, my graduation photos will be taken next week so I needed to be looking my best as these images will be displayed prominently on the mantel in all parents, grandparents and relatives’ homes for many years to come.

Ethical Technology: Is your phone/laptop/gaming system made of conflict metals?

Dear fellow lady-geeks and gamers,

I was alerted to this issue when a friend who posted about how “Video games DO kill people, just not the way you think” on his blog, discussing how some tech companies are actively working to reduce the amount of conflict metals that are being used in their products – and how others are decidedly not.

More importantly, he discusses how the sale of these materials – tungsten, gold, etc. – are the new ‘blood diamonds’ in financing the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighting the widespread use of rape against women in the area as a war tactic.
