The Feministing mudflap girl wearing a Santa hat

The future of Feministing is at stake

Feministing is a labor of love, and as we’ve built an increasingly diverse team and used the publication to uplift marginalized voices, it’s become unacceptable for this work to be unsupported financially. Simply put, our amazing team can’t keep working for the small stipends we’re making right now. We’re not aiming for high figures (though I wish we could, our team is incredible), but we’d like our writers, editors, and behind the scenes team to get paid.

To get there, we need to raise $7,500 this December to wrap up 2015 well and be ready for our ambitious fundraising and infrastructure goals for 2016. So far, we’ve raised just over $2,500 this month. We’re so grateful to everyone who’s donated! If you’ve given already, please help spread the word. We need the support of more of our amazing readers and community members to make an additional $5,000 so we can continue our work.

Feministing matters to me as a reader because I’m exposed to ideas and ways to take action here that I don’t see elsewhere. It matters to me as a writer because I can dig into nuanced analysis of marginalized issues in ways I can’t at any other publication with this sort of reach. And it matters to me as an editor and publisher because I’m able to recruit marginalized voices that are under-represented in media and propel them into the mainstream. Feministing plays a vital role, and as feminism in media goes mainstream it matters that we’re around to stand against the co-opting of our movements by those in power.

The good news is there are a lot of you, and if you all donated even $1 we’d be set. It’s important to us that Feministing is as accessible as possible, including to folks who can’t afford to pay at all. If you can afford to donate, you help keep the site available to all readers. Can you give $5, the cost of an over-priced holiday beverage? $5 from a lot of our readers would make all the difference in the world. Of course, if you can give more we greatly appreciate that too!

And don’t forget, for the rest of December donors will get the Feministing holiday card to send to a friend letting them know you’ve given in their honor.

Thank you so much to all our supporters! We can’t do this without you.
