Tweet of the Day: @xtraxtralex on skepticism of survivors

This tweet came across my social media feed this week and I felt like I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to remind folks exactly how sexism and rape culture are working in our world.

In the midst of Bill Cosby rape allegations and debates, policies that force rape survivors to legitimate their experiences by utilizing the criminal justice system (which further victimizes and shames them), and rampant slut shaming, this tweet was so necessary. Back in July, Twitter user @xtraxtralex called out the hypocrisy present in the patriarchal policing of women’s bodies.

This is always relevant. It does not only apply to our famous TV dads and favorite Instagram model. The tweet highlights a harmful double standard that is at work in personal lives and communities everyday.
