Support Feministing’s work: A message from Sesali

Sesali BowenFeministing needs your help. We need to raise $30,000 this month to continue bringing you the feminist news, analysis, and ways to take action you love. Over the next month, members of the Feministing crew will be sharing stories about the work they do. If you agree with us that it’s important and impactful work, please support us by donating to Feministing

I like to think that I’m Feministing’s ’round the way’ girl. As a columnist for the site, I am constantly thinking about bridging the gap between popular feminism and authentic experiences of Black girlhood. Most weeks I write one column through which I’ve been known to side-eye cultural appropriation, scratch the surface of trap feminism, and confront the contradictions in my voyeuristic love for the fashion industry. Oh, I also write about Beyonce…a lot.

Recently, I’ve been lucky enough to uphold the role of ‘sexpert’ as the writer of Fucking with Feministing, our monthly sex advice column. I take questions from our dope readers and work with our friends at the Center for Sex & Culture (CSC) to provide informative and witty feminist answers. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to fill the holes that I see in mainstream feminist coverage.

My work with Feministing has made me such a better writer, thanks to our amazing editors. I have committed to this work through two full-time jobs, a move to the South, a surprise Beyonce album, and now graduate school.

Please help us continue to do this work by donating to Feministing today.
