As they tried to record a new protest song near the Olympic Park on Wednesday, Pussy Riot members–including Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina, the formerly imprisoned members who are fresh off a recent visit to the US–were attacked with whips and tear gas by Cossack militia members who are providing security during the Games. Since arriving in Sochi, the group has been detained by the police several times.
