I Guess I’m Going to Hell

I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all seen some pretty outrageous political ads, but a new ad by former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee puts the cherry on top of the dishonest, nonsensical Republican sundae. His new message: warning Christian Americans if they vote for President Obama, Hell is where they’ll end up. These are Ayatollah tactics and the reason religion should not be mixed with politics.

In his new damnation ad, Mike Huckabee warns voters that their “votes are recorded in eternity.” He goes on the say: “In generations past, the Church has always been able to count on the Faithful to stand up and protect its sacred rights and duties. This generation of Christians must do the same.” The clip cuts to a man standing in an ominous basement next to a furnace where the word ECONOMY burns in block letters. Mike Huckabee continues to narrate: “This November, Christians across the nation will be put to the test, many issues in America require hard work…” Blocks of JOBS, TAXES and ENERGY are placed in the furnace like wood fuel and are adjusted by a fireplace poker that eerily resembles a pitchfork.

Then he comes to the real issues: “Many issues are at stake, but some issues are NOT NEGOTIABLE. The right to life from conception to natural death,” he declares as a block of LIFE goes up in flames. MARRIAGE goes into the boiler next. “Marriage should be reinforced, not redefined.” At the end of the ad, he goes on to ask: “Will you vote the values that will stand the test of fire?”

Huckabee spent twelve years as a Southern Baptist pastor and denominational leader. Thank God, I don’t live in Arkansas! Can you imagine the poor children that attended Bible study? They probably still have nightmares! The irony here is that Huckabee is clearly endorsing Mitt Romney, a man that absolutely refuses to speak about LDS religion; a man who was a bishop, then a stake president in the Mormon Church. If President Obama is not reelected, our nation will have the first president that has held a high-ranking religious position. I have no problem with that as long as religion stays in churches, temples and mosques, but I have a feeling that if Romney is elected, he will run to the far, far right, and that make me nervous. Although, Mike Huckabee would certainly enjoy that.

I also have to mention as I was doing some research on Huckabee, I read that his wife, Janet, has gone on the campaign trail with none other than Todd Akin. Yes, the same guy who claims a woman can’t get pregnant if she’s raped. When these wives start supporting issues that are perverse and unfounded, it makes me wonder who the real misogynists are. I think Mike Huckabee should take a good, long look at his party and rethink who exactly will end up in that everlasting inferno. But, if according to Huckabee, voting for Obama will send you to Hell, then I guess I’m going with a clear conscience.
