You may have missed this news, as it’s barely registered on the national media radar, but on New Year’s Day a Pensacola abortion clinic was destroyed by a fire. The clinic had been the site of violence and turmoil for a long time, including the 1993 and 1994 murders of two abortion providers.
Yesterday police arrested a suspect they believe to have set the fire.
It’s clear that some are motivated to take radical action to limit our access to reproductive health services. These actions are no doubt fueled by the political climate, which in Florida this year has been extremely hostile toward abortion. The Florida Independent reports that when Florida lawmakers return to session next week, they’ve already got seven bills regarding abortion on their slate.
