Ed Shultz apologizes for calling Laura Ingraham a slut

A rare, deeply sincere apology from the realm of mainstream media. In my opinion, Ed Shultz of MSNBC deserves serious props for owning his failures and speaking to them so openly. The only thing that could have made it better, would be to hear him speak to the larger culture within which his language operates, but my guess is that he’s properly unprepared to do that. Thanks to the Women’s Media Center for highlighting this indignity.

I don’t know Ed Shultz, but he seems like a decent sort of guy. Perhaps at times he gets a little carried away, but nothing about him seems inauthentic. As always, some have class and some have no class at all.

I wish Schultz could have addressed WHY this comment was wrong. He didn’t even use the word sexism. The apology was good, but I wish it were somehow linked to how lazy and sexist it is to take a woman’s voice away with the word “slut” and how men in the media need to be vigilant that they don’t push female commentary out of the picture with privilege and sexist remarks such as this.
