Focus on the Family attacks anti-bullying efforts as part of the “gay agenda”


Carl Walker-Hoover took his own life because of homophobic bullying.

There’s nothing like an interest group claiming to know what’s “best for the children” that completely disregards actual and real youth issues. What’s even better is that in efforts to push forth their own anti-LGBT bullshit, they’re claiming anti-bullying efforts by LGBT organizations are all a part of a “gay agenda”:

“We feel more and more that activists are being deceptive in using anti-bullying rhetoric to introduce their viewpoints, while the viewpoint of Christian students and parents are increasingly belittled,” [Candi] Cushman said.

Pope Benedict welcomed in UK with bus message: “Ordain Women Now”

Now this is what I call some kick-ass activism.

We all know that Pope Benedict ain’t too much of a fan women priests. In fact, he’s ordered the excommunication of any women involved in being ordained as well as recently updated Vatican documents implying the ordination of women is just as grave a sin as child sex abuse. So ole’ Bendi can’t be too surprised to find The Catholic Women’s Ordination group took it upon themselves to give him a proper welcome when he’s in the UK next month — with bus posters calling for the ordination of women:

Correcting the issue of college sexual harassment

I’ve been reading a lot in these last weeks before school starts, a kind of last-ditch attempt to inhale as many novels as possible before I go plummeting back into the world of academic criticism.  But the last two books that I read were not pure escapism; instead of distracting me from the fact that in two weeks, I’ll be unpacking piles of boxes and trying, finally, to come up with a senior thesis topic, they reminded me of one of the more unsavory aspects of collegiate life: sexual harassment.

Promoting a worthy cause – but at what cost?

Singapore’s Breast Cancer Foundation has released a new ad campaign that urges women to prioritize preventing and curing breast cancer over more trivial concerns. The campaign, which uses the naked female body as the canvas for cartoons about bad hair days and pimples, raises important questions about what is permissible in the name of an undeniably good cause. The ads, which ask, “are you obsessed with the right things?” are NSFW, and therefore below the jump.

Holy Hypocrite of the Day: Gov. Tim Pawlenty

Maya calls Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty out on his blatant hypocrisy this week — apparently the governor has turned down a $850,000 federal grant for sex education in the name of “striving to find ways to stop” health care reform in his state.

The thing is, Timmy boy has no problems whatsoever accepting a health care reform-sponsored $500,000 grant for abstinence-only programs — $379,000 of which needs to be matched by state funds. Says Maya:
