Sexual health sites for teens spread misinformation

A study from Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and the Stanford University School of Medicine shows that health websites that have sexual health information for teens are often “riddled with errors and omissions.”
Lead researcher Sophia Yen, MD, said, “Even widely trusted sites like WebMD are not that accurate when it comes to adolescent reproductive health…Teens should be cautious about finding sexual health answers on the Web.”

About half of the Web sites, including such highly trafficked destinations as Wikipedia and Mayoclinic.com, failed to provide accurate, complete information about emergency contraception, also known as “the morning-after pill.” For instance, sites often failed to say that minors can buy emergency contraception from authorized pharmacists in nine states, and many sites did not ...

Cause sexism is hilarious

This video isn’t in English, but there’s something about sexism that defies language barriers.

Obviously the whole video is gross and sexist, but it’s the ending that really killed my morning. I’m not a video game player, so maybe some women gamers/tech folks can chime in – is this what gaming culture thinks of women? Or do you think it’s just your run-of-the-mill stupid sexist bullshit?
Thanks to Moriah for the link.

Marriage will be there for men when they’re ready. And most do get there. Eventually. But according to social psychologists Roy Baumeister and Kathleen Vohs, women’s “market value” declines steadily as they age, while men’s tends to rise in step with their growing resources (that is, money and maturation). Countless studies — and endless anecdotes — reinforce their conclusion. Meanwhile, women’s fertility is more or less fixed, yet they largely suppress it during their 20s — their most fertile years — only to have to beg, pray, borrow and pay to reclaim it in ...

Congres is again considering a federal hate crimes bill that applies to “crimes of violence where the perpetrator has selected the victim because of the person’s actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or disability.” And on a related note, Washington state now protects against hate crimes motivated by gender identity.

Ask Professor Foxy: How Do I Deal With My Partner’s Low Sex Drive?

This weekly Saturday column “Ask Professor Foxy” will regularly contain sexually explicit material. This material is likely not safe for work viewing. The title of the column will include the major topic of the post, so please read the topic when deciding whether or not to read the entire column.

Hi Professor Foxy,
My partner of four years doesn’t have as high of a sex drive as me. I would enjoy having sex every day, but he has never cared to do it more than once every few weeks, even in the best of times. Since our first child was born a year and a half ago, we’ve been having sex only once every couple of months and, frankly, ...
