Shock and Gall

There’s an only-half-kidding joke that anti-choicers care about you from conception to birth.

I just received this email from Planned Parenthood of New Mexico:

Dear Friend of PPNM,

We are shocked and galled!

Yesterday PPNM staff exiting our parking lot noticed an injured woman lying semi-conscious on the sidewalk in front of our surgical clinic.  Staff immediately summoned police and paramedics who responded quickly, ultimately taking the woman to the hospital. She had not been a patient here, but had obviously been abused by someone somewhere else, staggered here and collapsed.

Meanwhile,   several anti-choice protesters were walking back and forth in front of our clinic in plain view of the woman. She was laying face-down on the sidewalk just feet away from them but no-one bothered to see if she was alright; police said the only call for help was from PPNM.

These protesters are part of a 40 Days for Life campaign that has organized anti-choice volunteers to pray and protest in front of our clinic and administrative offices from 7 AM to 7 PM daily from September 24 until Election Day on November 4.

These same protesters harassed our patients and staff last spring when they held a Lenten 40 Days event here.  We have quickly tired of once again having to tell them not to stop cars in our driveway, remind them that they’re too loud if we can hear them inside, and shoo them out of our parking lot. That’s right! They think it’s OK to park their cars in our lot while they protest against us, yet they cannot be bothered to help an injured person right in front of them!"

Whatever your views on… whatever, can we all agree that you have an obligation to help an injured person laying unconscious in front of you?
