Why waste time on the women’s vote?

Now whenever I come across creepy freeperdom I am forced to pause and read, frown and cry.

Now this is interesting: A Biblical justification for limiting suffrage to men (or even to men with property). It started with one of those games where people are asked to answer questions, and the blogger answered a question about what she’d like to change in the world like this:
If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt and politics, what would you do? Hoo-boy, this is where I get in trouble, and that starts with “T” and that rhymes with “P” and that stands for “pool.” I’d like to jump in a pool right now. Some may tell me to jump in a river for this one: I would remove women’s suffrage, and I might even consider making voting rights tied to property ownership.

You can read the rest at Echidne. Does the bible say blacks shouldn’t vote either? Gadzooks.

Some say that because of the curse of Ham, the Bible says that all blacks should be enslaved. I know that Jewish fundamentalists tend to invoke the curse as a way of proving that the Bible made correct prophecies, and I think Christian conservatives have used the curse as a way of justifying racism.
As for voting, the Bible’s pretty clear that it’s verboten. The correct form of rule is a monarchy, buttressed by a high priesthood that has moral and spiritual autonomy. The people are merely the king’s property, as evidenced by the fact that they’re to be punished when the king transgresses.

Maybe we should set up a system like in “The Handmaid’s Tale”. Everyone seemed really pious, fulfilled and happy in that book.

In the Old Testament, God has his chosen people commit repeated genocide. As a Christian, I do understand that there are a lot of friction points that exist between modern sensibility and Biblican example, which have never, and perhaps will never, be resolved. All I can say is, its a sad situation.

That makes perfect sense. While we’re at it, let’s reinstate a few more biblical imperatives:
    1) Everyone needs to transcribe their own copy of the bible. (Deut. 31:19)
    2) Put fringes on the corners of your clothing.(Num. 15:38). Now, people! What are you waiting for? Fringeless sinners!
Okay, I’ll stop now. But in all honesty, it wouldn’t be so bad if people started following Lev. 19:16.
