Hypocrisy really grinds my ass

On the main page, in the weekly reader, is a link to HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt’s defense of the proposed regulations to support medical care providers who choose to restrict access to birth control, deeming it abortifacent. I will not reproduce the link here, only my comment on his defense.

I find it laughable that you dare to be defending the right to choose for those who just happen to be choosing something you agree with. How dare you co-opt the language that was designed to allow individuals to make choices about their own health care in the name of allowing a complete stranger to make that choice for them?

you sir are a hypocrite, of the worst kind. talk to some women with Polycystic Ovarian syndrome, or Endometriosis, or PMDD about why you think that some random pharmacist who does not know them from Adam should be allowed to decide if they get to live normal, relatively pain-free lives before you go and defend your anti-woman stance.

Babe In Total Control of Herself

Due to a recent discussion on an Ani DiFranco online community, I have been going over the word "bitch" when used as an insult. I know that this is territory that has been chewed to death by theorists, linguists and social commentators, most of whom are far more eloquent and informed than I. This discussion is more for me, and about what I will accept as descriptors and labels for myself.

"Bitch" in the English language is a decidedly gendered insult, the exact implication of which changing depending on who it is applied to. Parenting, Motherhood and Internalization

I have been going over and having some serious conversations with myself with regards to my family planning choices lately and have discovered something that kinda makes me a bit uncomfortable with myself.

I have had and continue to have fertility issues. About a year and a half ago, my doctors found cysts on my ovaries that could create complications for the process of getting and staying pregnant. Due to lack of insurance, I have not had the opportunity to see a specialist and confirm a diagnosis of a specific hormonal disorder, but since I will be covered shortly, I should be able to get that taken care of.

I have also discovered recently that I am able to conceive, but ...

An Open Letter to Senator Obama

Dear sir,

Recently the Department of Health and Human Services has produced proposed regulations to prevent health care providers from “discriminating” against those health workers who refuse to issue certain standards of care by refusing to hire or disciplining them for not doing their job based on a “strong moral conviction” to not participate in anything that the individual workers deem as abortifacient regardless of medical fact. These regulations would not only make it illegal for health care providers receiving federal funds to insist that their employees do their jobs and make it so that the refusing healthcare professionals are given legal license to discriminate against patients based on sex, perceived gender, and supposed violations of their personal ethics, but ...
