Today in Feminist History

On December 21, 1937, Jane Fonda was born. Fonda is best known for her work as an actress, appearing in over 30 major motion pictures, including the more recent Georgia Rule, and 1960’s classics like Barbarella.

She’s also been a prominent activist and self-identified feminist. She’s known for her fierce opposition to the Vietnam and Iraq wars as well founding the Women’s Media Center in 2005 alongside Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem.
She also has founded a number of other organizations, including the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention, the Jane Fonda Center at Emory University, the Sisterhood is Global Institute and VDAY until the Violence Stops.
