Quick Hit: Are you an undergrad with something to say about love?

The New York Times is hosting their annual Modern Love college essay contest. In the spirit of Ann’s last post, you should write!

If you have a personal story that illustrates the current state of love and relationships, e-mail it to us at essaycontest@nytimes.com. The winning author will receive $1,000 and his or her essay will be published in a special “Modern Love” column on May 1, 2011, and on nytimes.com.

Quickhit: Calling all Feminist Fiction Writers

Via Poets & Writers Magazine, check out this new writing contest targeting feminist writers.

Grants of up to $1,500 are given twice yearly to feminist writers who are citizens of the United States or Canada. The current round of grants will be awarded to fiction writers. Submit three copies of a short story or novel excerpt of up to 25 pages, a project description, a budget, and a resumé with a $20 entry fee during the month of December. Send an SASE for the required entry form and complete guidelines.

Quick Hit: Another Contest for Women Writers ISO Funding

In the interest of continuing the conversation about how women writers can monetize their writing, I wanted to pass along another contest. Via the website of Narrative:

We are looking for works with a strong narrative drive, with characters we can respond to as human beings, and with effects of language, situation, and insight that are intense and total. We look for works that have the ambition of enlarging our view of ourselves and the world.

Awards: First Prize is $3,250, Second Prize is $1,500, Third Prize is $750, and ten finalists will receive $100 each. All entries will be considered for publication.
