Women Dems push for Violence Against Women Act

“This one shouldn’t be about politics. Protecting women against violence shouldn’t be a partisan issue.”Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA)

But of course, in this twilight of reason, even the issue of violence against women is charged with partisan politics. Originally passed in 1994, and up for renewal this year, the Violence Against Women Act, passed through the Senate Judiciary Committee a few weeks ago, on a party-line vote. Republicans opposed the new elements of the legislation that protect immigrants and same-sex couples. And in this era of government-the-size-of-an-Asprin-between-your-knees, they also raised concerns about the federal grants the bill authorizes.

Democrats are framing this as another element of what many are calling the “Republican war on women[‘s rights].” And ...

At least the Republicans are Consistent: They are for probing women’s vaginas & against VAWA

You gotta hand it to the Republicans. They’re committed and consistent when it comes to making life miserable for women. Today’s all male panel on contraceptives was the cherry on the layered cake of misogyny comprised of opposing the Violence Against Women Act, and insisting on vaginally penetrating women against their will. See, the Republicans can’t support a bill that’s against violence against women, when they themselves are perpetuating violence against women by technically raping them with an instrument.

The information was released based on a study of 300+ (and growing participants) nationwide. Black Women’s Blueprint conducted similar research 7 years ago and found 40 percent of women had reported being assaulted — indicating that things obviously aren’t getting better. “[W]e need to stop neglecting the issue,” co-founder Farah Tanis told NewsOne.

Specifically, the group and other organizations are seeking to put language in the renewed VAWA that addresses the fact that women of color are disproportionately ...

Joe Biden compares GOP to rape apologists

Now WAIT JUST A MINUTE: People still blame rape victims?!

Joe. What are you doing, Joe?:

The vice president, known for speaking his mind and at times putting his foot in his mouth, said that Republicans who want to cut spending while at the same time cutting taxes for the wealthy are similar to rape apologists.

In setting up his comparison, the vice president explained to the audience that before the Violence Against Women Act that he championed was passed into law, “there was this attitude in our society of blaming the victim,” according to a press pool account of the event.

“When a woman got raped, blame her because ...
