Feministing Follow Friday: Women in STEM, Vol. II

Last week we asked for recommendations for women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) on twitter — and you had way, way too many ideas for just one #ff. We’re back for volume II today with five more amazing ladies who crunch (numbers).

Feministing Follow Friday: Women in STEM, Vol. I

I’m thrilled to see a growing conversation about the gender disparity in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). However, I worry sometimes that our focus on the lack of women accidentally erases the work of some BAMFs in the trenches. Here are five whose adventures and thoughts we love to follow:

Feministing Follow Friday: TV on Twitter

I watch TV on the internet. I don’t have an actual set (lol), I don’t have any friends who have actual sets, and I don’t have wifi at home. I’m also a law student, which means if I regularly took the time to watch an entire show I would probably die of guilt. So, I “keep up” with TV purely via Twitter — and I always appreciate a good feminist lens (I know, shocking). Here are some of the Feministing crew’s favorite ladies who livetweet shows with equal parts wit and gender analysis.

You go, Ellen Page.

The Michael Dunn trial will expose disturbing (and sadly unsurprising) truth about America.

“Valentine’s Day is a holiday based on fears…can technology make long-term monogamy any easier?”

From Emmett Till to Jordan Davis: why is standing out still a death sentence for black kids in America?

What role do pharmacists play in teenagers’ access to emergency contraception?

Do the Olympics half-ass women’s sports?

You go, Ellen Page.

Feministing Follow Friday: Funny Feminists Edition, Vol. I

I’m really, really over the ARE WOMEN FUNNY “debate” and usually I’m on the Liz Lemon train: I’m not gonna make you a fucking list of funny women just to prove my point. But, then again, it’s my job to make a list of feminists on the internet every Friday. And this time I want to talk about hilarious ladies.

Feministing Follow Friday: Feminist Academics, Vol. I

It’s no secret that there’s a special place in Feministing’s heart for academic feminists. It’s a rare treat, though, to see what distinguished profs and researchers think about outside the classroom. Twitter can offer a little window into this world, so here are five of our favorite feminist academics to follow.

Feministing Follow Friday: Feminist Poets Edition, Vol. II

A million years ago — OK, more like a month ago — before Feministing took time off for the holidays, and before I briefly left the blogosphere to study for finals, we put together Volume I of feminist poets you should follow on Twitter. As promised, just a bit late, here’s Volume II.
