Today, closing arguments by the prosecution for the Zimmerman trial have begun.

And I’m going to be honest with you, I’m not optimistic about the outcome of the George Zimmerman trial. I’ve watched the proceedings at a comfortable distance for the past two weeks and followed some smart observations from Mychal, Jelani Cobb, and Jonathan Capehart. Prior to the trial’s start, I had an opportunity to discuss some of my reservations with Zerlina on Sirius XM’s “The Urban View.” My principle concerns then, as it is now, are closing arguments and jury instruction.

Tuesday troll alert: Boy, I sure hope Todd Kincannon is single!

I can sort of see why this dude wouldn’t get the invite to the GOP retreat at the totes awesome plantation in Virginia back in January.

I mean, perhaps some folks in the GOP were thinking about what it would mean to empower someone like that who displays such sensitivity, really in touch with the zeitgeist. Or perhaps they thought after losing the 2012 elections, and recognizing the pluralistic reality of the American electorate, that this dude, the ‘honey badger of American Politics,’ (Kincannon’s actual Twitter bio) might be off message. This guy is so not helping in the effort to re-brand the Grand Old Party. While we can see this tweet as the troll bait it really is, yet ...

George Zimmerman allegedly molested woman for 10 years

George Zimmerman is facing more disturbing allegations.  The alleged shooter in the Trayvon Martin killing has now been accused of molesting his female relative for a period of 10 years.

The woman identified in court documents as “Witness 9″ claims Zimmerman, who is two years older, began to molest her – in front of other family members at age 6 when Zimmerman was only 8 – and the abuse continued for 10 years.

“Witness 9″ is also alleging that George Zimmerman has a racial bias against black people.

To make matters worse, Zimmerman’s defense team noticed the vocal support coming from conservative media and conveniently after requesting a “chat” with his lead defense attorney, has published information about the alleged victim including ...

Florida: You can kill an unarmed teen but can’t defend yourself against an abuser

What happens when you have a criminal record, fatally shoot a teenager armed with nothing more than a pack of skittles and an ice-tea and argue you were justified under Florida’s Stand Your Ground Laws? Nothing. The police believe you and it takes a national media campaign to actually get the criminal justice system to look into the case.

What happens when you have no criminal record, don’t harm anyone, but fire shots to scare off an abusive husband, who has choked and punched you, and just threatened to kill you? You get sentenced to 20 years of prison, of course. This is justice in Florida, where Marissa Alexander was sentenced to 20 years of jail time on Friday. ...

An anonymous person from Virginia Beach, Virginia sold “10 Pack Trayvon Martin Targets” on the website GunBroker.com (the product has since been removed from the site). For $8, you could buy the item, whose description read as follows:

“Everyone knows the story of Zimmerman and Martin… Obviously we support Zimmerman and believe he is innocent and that he shot a thug. Each target is printed on thick, high quality poster paper with a matte finish! The dimensions are 12″x18″ ( The same as Darkotic Zombie Targets) This is a Ten Pack of Targets.”

Referencing Trayvon Martin, racist slurs and bottles thrown at black students from Cornell frat house

This is beyond heinous: 

A group of partiers on the roof of a Cornell frat house allegedly taunted black students and threw objects — including an empty Jack Daniels bottle — at them as they passed on the street.

Beverly Fonkwo, a sophomore, says she and a friend were walking home when people began throwing things at them from the Sigma Pi roof. When she confronted the crowd, she says, they threw more trash and a full beer can, saying “come on up here, Trayvon” and making other racist remarks.

The president of the fraternity, Zach Smith, told the Cornell Daily Sun on Sunday that the frat had “figured out who the perpetrator was, and will turn his name over to police.” Smith ...
