Romney surrogate Norm Coleman claims Romney won’t overturn Roe v. Wade

Norm Coleman, my former Senator and current Romney surrogate, says not to worry our pretty little heads about Roe v. Wade being overturned if Romney wins, because it’s just not gonna happen.

“The reality is choice is an issue for a lot of people, an important issue. President Bush was president eight years, Roe v. Wade wasn’t reversed. He had two Supreme Court picks, Roe v. Wade wasn’t reversed. It’s not going to be reversed.”

As Irin Carmon writes, this is “blatantly and intentionally misleading.” There is, in fact, video of Romney saying that he wants to appoint Supreme Court justices who will reverse Roe. And the reason Bush wasn’t able to do so during his presidency primarily

Obama vs. Romney on women’s issues last night

There’s sure to be endless post-debate analysis today, but there’s no question that on women’s issues–which finally got some attention!–Obama was the clear winner. (I mean, obvs.) If you missed it, here’s basically how it went down:

Romney: “I went to a number of women’s groups and said, can you help us find folks? And they brought us whole binders full of women.” FACTCHECK.

Obama: The Lilly Ledbetter Act.

Romney:

Obama: Health care reform.

Romney:

Obama: Planned Parenthood.

Romney:

Obama: Birth control coverage.

Romney:

Obama: “I’ve got two daughters, and I want to make sure that they have the same opportunities that anybody’s sons have. That’s part of what I’m fighting for as president of the United ...

Romney clarifies that he would “be a pro-life president” and “immediately” defund Planned Parenthood

Noted flip-flopper and presidential candidate Mitt Romney is having to clarify his position on abortion. On Tuesday, after mansplaining to a lady reporter from the Des Moines Register about what women voters really care about, Romney had this to say:

“There’s no legislation with regards to abortion that I’m familiar with that would become part of my agenda.”

His campaign quickly corrected the record: “Governor Romney would of course support legislation aimed at providing greater protections for life.” And Romney himself awoke from his momentary amnesia and remembered that it’s 2012 and he’s not a moderate running in Massachusetts anymore. Yesterday he said:

“I think I’ve said time and again that I’m a pro-life candidate and I’ll be a ...

Post-debate reflections: Big Bird is now a partisan issue

As a country, we all sat together last night waiting for what was to come in the debates yesterday evening. Surely, it would be a good show, considering how salacious election related headlines have been. We waited for gaffes and a few zingers–oh my! Or maybe talk of the 47%?! Or for Obama to finally call Romney out for his lying habit and his penchant for protecting the interests of the super rich.

Unfortunately, most of the debate was pretty boring. The issues that many of us really wanted to hear positions on went unanswered–what’s going on with immigration reform? Reproductive rights? Equal pay? Same-sex marriage? The issues that matter to us seemed hauntingly absent.

Obama seemed shaky, but his answers ...

New Romney ad geared toward women is a joke

It just gets better. This election season has been like a bloopers reel for a real election, as Romney’s “strategy” unfolds before us. Let’s put aside that in the last two days alone he said half the country is a bunch of ungrateful serfs and said that there is “no hope for Palestine,” his continued attempt at reaching lady voters baffles. This week, the Romney campaign puts out a video targeting the ladiez titled, “hey daughter.”

So is that supposed to be a daughter? Or a daughter’s daughter? I’m so confused!

“Our daughters,” have the most to lose under a Romney presidency. Romney doesn’t support equal pay, so single moms–you will earn less. And don’t forget to remind your daughters that they ...

Did Akin “legitimate rape” doctor meet with Romney?

This is certainly interesting.  It appears that Dr. John Wilke and Mitt Romney have a history.  Even though the Romney camp is claiming a Romney administration would not ban abortion in all cases with no exceptions, Romney might have some explaining to do in terms of just how connected he is to the “doctor” that told Rep. Todd Akin that women can’t get pregnant from rape.

During the 2008 presidential election cycle, Wilke was an official surrogate for Romney.  Here is the official press release welcoming to the Romney campaign back in 2007 as an “important surrogate.”  Wilke also claims that just last year he met with Romney who said, “we agree on almost everything.”  Now whether Romney ...
