GOPers defend reality TV homophobe, are confused about First Amendment

So apparently there is a reality television show called Duck Dynasty, and one of the stars was suspended from the program for saying something homophobic. So naturally, the GOP is running to defend him. Wait what?

Republican Congressman busted for cocaine possession voted to drug-test food stamp recipients

You’ve probably heard about freshman Congressman Trey Radel, a Republican from Florida who was recently caught buying cocaine from an undercover cop in DC. But did you know he just voted to drug-test food stamp users?

Forget the headlines: Here are 5 fundamental facts about Obamacare (with bonus GIFs)

1. You have until December 15th to sign up.

I’m currently uninsured and I’ve gone onto the New York exchange to compare my options.  Like I’ve said before, I had 124 choices, so going through them is taking time.  But let’s be real: I’m probably going to be like this until the first deadline on December 14th:

And for people who are uninsured who want to avoid the $95 penalty, you have until March 31st to sign up.  Only the people who want coverage beginning on January 1st, have to sign up by December 15th.  We all procrastinate.  Most Americans will sign up at the very last minute.

The same New Jersey that re-elected Christie also voted to raise the minimum wage

New Jersey voted Tuesday to re-elect Chris Christie as Governor by an overwhelming margin.  Pundits are focusing on Christie’s win as a sign of a Republican resurgence, but the same electorate in New Jersey that voted for Christie, voted to raise the minimum wage.

Via Think Progress:

In New Jersey, the minimum wage, which was set at the federal floor of $7.25, will now rise by a dollar and the state constitution will be amended to include automatic increases tied to inflation. It is now the eleventh state to adopt automatic increases to the wage, standing in contrast to the federal government, where it hasn’t risen in four years. Over 60 percent of voters approved the measure.

Phew! Head Start shut down but Gym for Congress Members is OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

Let freedom ring! Only in America, ladies and gentleman. USA! USA! Great news guys! You may have heard that the government shutdown GOP decision to shutdown the government because it really doesn’t want people who aren’t wealthy to have access to health care, means that non-essential programs like, say, early education for children, cancer treatment, domestic violence services, salaries for government workers are on hold. But, thanks to the leadership and orders of John Boehner,  certain very essential things, sacred things, cannot be touched by a government shutdown. Like the exclusive House Member’s Gym, which provide members of Congress with a swimming pool, basketball courts, paddleball courts, a sauna, a steam room and flat screen TVs. ...

Today in mansplaining: GOP Rep. tells CNN host ‘Carol, you’re beautiful but you need to be honest’

Today Congressman Todd Rokita (R-IN), who was trying in vain to explain his party’s nonsensical shutdown of the U.S. government, mansplained big time to CNN’s Carol Costello, who wasn’t buying any of the bullcrap.  Of course because no Republican likes to be challenged by a mere woman about their current political tantrum, his only response to her tough questions was, “Carol, you’re beautiful but you need to be honest as well.”

I just love me some mansplaining! Wait, no, the opposite is true. Mansplaining makes my blood boil and I have secret daydreams where I’m pulling out a move like I’m the Black version of Angelina Jolie in Salt.  Unfortunately, because I’m anti-violence and can’t fight, I mainly have to ...

A sternly worded letter to the ‘Kamikaze Caucus’ that caused this shutdown

Dear House Republicans,

As we begin day three of the government shutdown, you and your colleagues, the “Kamikaze Caucus,” continue to hold America hostage. You are ideologues who have no desire to actually govern the country.

Even fellow Republicans are calling your latest stunts “reckless and unnecessary” and millions of Americans are signing up for Obamacare, finally able to afford health insurance for themselves and their families. I am currently uninsured and will be signing up for Obamacare as soon the traffic on the New York exchange lightens up. You see, because of all this unnecessary drama your fantasy land idea that you could somehow “defund” Obamacare backfired and made millions of Americans aware that they could start ...

Did Wendy Davis just hint at a run for Texas governor?

This would be the best news! On October 3rd, Texas State Senator Wendy Davis will announce her future plans.  The consensus is that she’s running for governor of Texas but until she officially announces we can only hope.

Her run against the sitting and forgetful Governor Rick Perry would be an epic battle of fundraising and outside cash is going to be key in how formidable Davis can be against Perry who has been in office for over a decade.

Certainly, Davis’ candidacy would fire up this website give folks outside of Texas a real opportunity to be excited about a statewide race in the traditionally red state.  If you would like to get Senator Davis’ announcement
