Mitt Romney thinks voters have no memory

Yesterday, in typical “post-primary step all over my victory with a gaffe” Mitt Romney fashion, Eric Fehrnstrom, Romney’s campaign spokesman told CNN that by the general election Romney will be able to “hit a reset button” and stated that it’s “almost like an etch-a-sketch you can kind of shake it up and start all over again.”

Uh…

So Mitt Romney thinks that all of the “severely conservative” positions he’s taken during this long primary fight will just go away like the drawings on an etch-a-sketch? Certainly the Romney camp realizes that many of Romney’s most problematic positions–like saying he would get rid of Planned Parenthood–are all on video right?

It’s certainly interesting that the one candidate this year who has seemingly lacked ...

Anti-choice org on Planned Parenthood: Like drug dealers, but with sex

It’s truly hard to digest how hilarious this video is from the American Life League on Planned Parenthood and their “agenda” to lure your children into sex addiction with candy penis pops and vagina fruit roll-ups so they can sell them abortions and birth control. The gateway drug? Masturbation.

I repeat, folks — this is not a parody video.

*Fans air* Whoowee! I don’t know about you, but nothing gets me hotter than vulva puppets, vagina macaroons and cartoon penises. (Seriously though, I do kind of want a macaroon now.)

These people never cease to amaze.

Via. Thx to Morgan for the heads up.

Remembering Dr. Stephen Levin

Saying someone is a hero and a lifesaver, lauding their invaluable and extraordinary contributions to the world, can often be hyperbole. But in the case of Dr. Stephen Levin (Oct. 16, 1941- February 8, 2012) who fought for his patients’ lives as a physician and activist, and fought for change on both a cellular and a political  level, it’s simply a statement of fact.

I first met Steve Levin at the New York City office of Kinderland, a progressive summer camp focused on social justice. I grew up going to Kinderland, and was there for my interview to be a Counselor in Training (CIT). Steve was there, waiting for his own daughter — who had never been to Kinderland — to finish ...

Breaking: Komen apologizes, says they will continue funding Planned Parenthood

The Komen Board of Directors and Founding CEO Nancy G. Brinker just released a statement in response to the massive outcry following their decision to stop directing funds to Planned Parenthood, most of which went to breast cancer screenings. Komen claims the decision was not political, and that they will continue funding Planned Parenthood:

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by ...

Women’s health care shouldn’t be at the mercy of Komen or Bloomberg

As Samhita mentioned yesterday, in response to the Komen fiasco, Mayor Bloomberg is matching donations to Planned Parenthood up to $250,000. While he’s probably contributing the biggest chunk of change, Bloomberg is hardly the only supporter rallying to Planned Parenthood’s aid. Just 24 hours after Komen announced they were pulling their funding, Planned Parenthood had raised nearly enough to offset the loss.

That’s wonderful. Bloomberg is kind of the worst on some issues, but he has been a strong and consistent defender of reproductive rights. I’m thrilled he put some of his money where his mouth is in this case. And it’s also been truly heartening to see how quickly and passionately regular folks have mobilized to defend Planned ...

Three reasons I wish I could quit you, Susan G. Komen!

Yesterday, Lori  blogged the then-breaking news that the Susan G. Komen Foundation would stop funding Planned Parenthood’s breast cancer screenings, bowing to pressure from ironically named “pro-life” groups and their ironically named “pro-life” new Vice-President, Karen Handel. Handel unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Texas Georgia on an anti-Planned Parenthood platform, saying “Let me be clear, since I am pro-life, I do not support the mission of Planned Parenthood.” Since the Foundation’s cuts will mean a loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars that would have gone to breast exams, these organizations and this Handel, are less pro-life and more anti-life, pro-cancer and, ultimately pro-death.

Of course, people are encouraging ...

Breaking: Komen Foundation pulls breast cancer screening funds from Planned Parenthood

What sad and disturbing news. From the Washington Post comes breaking news that will affect hundreds of thousands of dollars in women’s health funding:

“The nation’s leading breast-cancer charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, is halting its partnerships with Planned Parenthood affiliates — creating a bitter rift, linked to the abortion debate, between two iconic organizations that have assisted millions of women.

The change will mean a cutoff of hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants, mainly for breast exams.” [Emphasis mine.]

The infamous pink Bible “controversy” (in which pink bibles that were being sold to benefit Susan B. Komen for Breast Cancer Awareness were pulled from the shelves because of ties to Planned Parenthood) most likely ...

What We Missed

Samhita and I went to a panel on Friday for Planned Parenthood’s new 2012 elections campaign (which I’m doing some work with them on) where amazing pro-choice celebs Julianne Moore, Gabrielle Union, America Ferrera and Maggie Gyllenhaal told us why they support Planned Parenthood. And naturally, they were all very swoon-worthy.

In case you didn’t catch the debate last week, Gingrich and Romney both supported getting rid of bilingual ballots.

An anonymous former associate of GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul told WaPo that — surprise, surprise — Paul did indeed sign off on the ridiculously bigoted newsletters back in the day, to build the business further ...
